best edge

Three schools of thought come to my mind.

Convex Edge. Most sturdy geometry (presumably) because their is more steel just behind the cutting edge and thus reduces the likelyhood of chipping, rolling.

Flat secondary bevel. Easy to resharpen in the field and easy to put a microbevel on (which sort of ends up being like convex a little bit anyway).

Scandinavian Grind. Easy to resharpen in the field, especially if you do so with a microbevel or have to put a secondary bevel on there.

So I am no help but I suspect many will recommend Convexing. I have just started doing it with the sandpaper and mousepad method and I finally got my Gerber LMF as sharp as I want it. I also did my Camillus 7" leather washer bolt knive with a convex edge and it is great. I have not had the change to test either. Convexing is all the rage right now for sure and apparently with good reason.

The best edge for you ultimately depends on what you find easiest to maintain.

Different edges may excel in different tasks, but I find that ease of maintenance goes a lot farther - I would more likely use a knife that I can keep sharp easily.

Convex seems to be a bit more durable for heavy use, and is very easily sharpened via stropping.

I have gien a few of my blades Convex edges, but I can't get them as sharp as my old way of freehand...Wonder why ?
