Whats the best edible knife oil? Must be completely edible. No negative side effects. Edibility (is that a word) is primary... knive care quality is secondary (hey there's no oil on this knife now so anything is an imporvement).

Is the answer vegetable oil or is it olive oil or something else all together?

You can use the vegetable oil or canola oil in the spray cans that you use on pans for your blades. Ive used it on one of my carbon steel fixed blades and no rust appeared.

Mineral oil.

Olive, Canola, Vegetable may go rancid and give the blade a unique smell. The tiny amount of mineral oil (laxative section at the pharmacy) will have no effect on the humas body whatsoever.

I thought it was KY jelly!

Seriously, whatever you use it should be completely wiped off, no sticky film to attract the bad stuff. I never worried about it because there is such a small amount that I'm probably getting more bad stuff in the food I'm cutting up.

Mineral Oil. Absolutely tasteless and harmless. Protects decently well as well.

Okay, my son is 2.5 yrs old and only weighs about 32lbs.

I'm gonna try mineral oil but if it has a laxative effect the next time I use my EDC to cut his fruit or cheese for him, who's coming over to change the diaper?

That's all I want to know. :)

Oil of wintergreen.
It's also the best penetrating oil PERIOD for removing tiny rusty screws in anything.
All of that WD44 magnum and nonsense.. NOOP..
DO NOT try a shotglass full.
Wipe the blade, cut the kids food and regroup.. Or just buy a damn wallet blade ( stainless) and give up the tactical mentality.....
I BUTCHER, with oiled , carbon blades..

I cut cooked/eating FOOD with antibacterial soaped stainless blades.

Here's something VERY INTERESTING..
Wood vs plastic
Enjoy.
