I usually keep some Peanuts, Jerkey, and stuff like that in my kits, but am considering perhaps starting to stash some energy bars as well but have several questions.
Should I keerp carrying the stuff I already do, or is there a Energy bar, that would meet the needs provided by Peanuts/Jerkey?
Is there a certain kind that is more nutritious/filling that another?
Where do you get them, and lastly - how long will they last in a kit before needing replaced?

My BOB is somewhat cramped - so trying to think of the best way to consolidate space on the grub.

Thanks a bunch!

I cant keep track anymore a new bar comes out daily it seems.

I always liked the cliff bars and they lasted 2 yrs beyond expiration.

Skam

I prefer gatorade powder mix packet. Small and easy to pack and I know it works!

If it can improve my game and training and allow me to endure longer in sports, then I assume it would help me to endure in a survival situation

They make weight gaining bars that have an awful lot of nutrients and calories. Clif makes one with 21g of protein (!) and something like 250 calories that would probably be good for a kit. I personally prefer peanut M&Ms. :)

I have Snickers brand protein bars. If you're hungry, eat one and you don't feel like eating anymore. Know what I mean?

In winter hiking and camping, it's good to have more carbs during the daytime activities and have more proteins for evening/bedtime.

The calories from the carbs (lots of bars) are released quicker to support the work, whereas the protein calories are released over a greater period of time providing more digestive process body heat for a more comfy and warm snooze - especially if you have no external source of heat.

Anyone tried Larabar's? They're kind of pricey and smaller than
average, but the contents are all natural and they have about
a dozen flavors, including pecan pie and banana-made with real
bananas. One usually lasts me about 4-6 hrs

I've tried a number of various "energy" bars and don't much care for any of them although Clif were the best of them IMO. I prefer to take GORP (I like Costco's Trail Mix), jerky, dried fruit, a couple of cereal and/or candy bars. You get carbs, protein, and fat but can tailor what you need to what you're doing.

I keep a couple of king size snickers in my trail pack, there is an awful lot of calories in those! I also have a couple of packets of peanut butter that I picked up at EMS.

Cliff bars, Powerbars. PUREPROTIEN! (yes, that's the actual name), are all good to go. I'd also look into any kind of meal replacement bar or possibly the gels used during marathons and other endurance races.

peanut butter cliff bars are delicious. At a buck a piece they're not the most expensive ones out there either.

I am surprised no one brings gatorade

It allows me to drink less and my body to absorb more water

I find most energy bars bog you down

I bring gatorade packs too- but cliff bars are great when you're using calories. I get hungry quick ;)

Cliff bars and Lara Bars.

Why don't you guys trip yourselves out by reading the contents on a Larabar?!

Powerbars turn into inedible leathery tar in cold temps.

I cannot personally stand to eat MetRx bars.

I use LaraBars cause they're very low sodium.
I like these too...........when I buy them by the box I get a discount. Sometime I raid the BOB when I have "sweet tooth"....they come in some pretty tasty flavors !

I prefer these individual "Emergen C" packets for electrolyte replacement rather than Gatorade; 36 single servings to a box........http://www.vitacost.com/Alacer-Emergen-C-Lemon-Lime; they come in a bunch of different flavors.......raspberry, orange, cranberry. lemon-lime etc.
