I picked up a KaBar Kukri awhile back and it's been used to clear brush and tree limbs from my property. Paid 48.00

For around 100 bucks you can buy a real kukri from Himalayan Imports. All hand forged and hand made by great people in Nepal, great customer service, too. Get the real thing instead of a "kukri shaped" machete. Just my opinion.

I bought a Khukuri from Himalayan Imports. It's called the Gahnga Ram Special, 18 inches overall. It's a great tool-but cost over double what you want to spend. They had a large variety to choose from so they may have something closer to what fits you. I thnk there is another company that are genuine Napalese Gurkas. GK. and Co. If my memory serves me. I believe they may have been a little less expensive. They are not expensive at all for what you get, mostly hand made, with quality sheaths.

He wasn't asking about kurki shaped machetes. The Condor Heavy Duty kukri is a traditional style kukri, not a machete(Condor makes a separate kukri machete). I think he's looking for a real kukri, not a machete, made by mass production(my guess is he knows the hand made kukris can sometimes be a bit iffy, and prefers getting one with a better QC). For kurkis under $100, both Ontario and Ka-bar make good ones(they also both make machete versions, so be sure you get the right one) for under $100, though IMO, they don't quite look like a true traditional kukri.

Still, I agree with herisson, I'd rather get a genuine one from Khukuri House or HI(assuming HI has one under $100, most everything I saw there was significantly higher last I looked)

FYI India Kukri Knife cost you about $28 plus shipping cost at ebay!
Meaning that with $100 you can get 3 pieces, pal!
And then you can abuse each piece without much worry!
Isn't it worth buying?

Anyhow I prefer to go with herisson and 1234 :o

Some good, some bad advice above. If you want t Kukri, you should get a real kukri...with a properly differentially heat treated blade. Himilayan Imports has Villager Models that will sell down in the $75 range. They are rough and tough. Everything else is just a KLO...Kukri like object.

I always recommend Himalayan Imports first. Pick up a KLVUK for $60 plus shipping.

Some folks don't want a traditional kukri, if you want a modern day kukri for sub $100 the Ontario kukri is the best out there.

Uhh, no, everything else is NOT just a "kukri like object". Khukuri house makes real kukris, and theirs are actually used by the people who made the kukri famous, so I'm fairly sure that's not just a "KLO".

And Santa Claus visits all the little children on Christmas eve.....
There are several khukuri sellers whom choose to make this claim. Which one are you suppose to believe?

The various Khukuri Houses are all basically the same company. All run by members of the same family.

No, not all of them. There are 4 family houses. There are a couple others whom are not family related, but are resellers of the same khukuri.
There are also manufacturers from dharan, not affiliated. At times some of these house affiliated sellers have even used H.I. ad copy to sell their wares: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ntation-of-HI-original-designs?highlight=Yvsa

last week I inquired about two kukri at khhi and gurkha house something or other, shipping was going to be 39.50 and 40.00 to my house yowzer. go with himilayen imports, you will not be disappointed..just my opinion..

Agree with Mink and Dirtbiker........Ontario kuk. Been beating on mine for years now and cuts as deep as all get out and tough as can be

Hi! Am from India, North East India, more accurately says. Kukri .. Pronounced here 'Khukuri' ,is a every day carry , multi purpose tool.. but originally is the traditional weapon of 'Gurkhas".. the Nepali people. It is a awsome weapon, made with heavy truck springs, The "Biswakarma"tribes of Nepal made with traditional hand forzing.Cost is not very high. arround us$50.( Rs.2000-3000) with water baffelow skin & brass scabbard. Its very hard. You may cut a junk car with it.I have two Khukuries. One is 14.5 inch-with 9.5 inch blade, another one is 13.5 inch with 7.5 inch blade.I can't post the pictures because I dont know the process...it's different from FB or +google ! A cutomised one ( not commercially made) Ang Khola Khukuri is the best, in balance,in strength,in cutting ability, and in price. My preference is Sirupaty Khukri, its light in weight, long and easy to chop accuratly. If you have one known person in Nepal or Darjeeling (India) you may get a customised one. My smaller one is nearly 70 yrs old but the blade is still very shiny and very sharp.I use it in every day work when in my firm house.

Last time I checked original issue antique kukris were still available, and for well under $100.
Might be something to consider if looking for a display piece or collectors item, rather than a user.
