Has anyone out there checked out their local pawn shops for quality steel recently? If not you should make a habbit out of it as you can once in a while find a real gem, and usually get it at a good deal! What has been your best find in a pawn shop? Ready? Go!

$150 CAD for a ZT 300 in a pawnshop near the downtown area. Near perfect condition, no bladeplay, no F&F issues, although the finish on the blade is a little scuffed, probably from the pivot being a little loose and people opening it. Should have picked it up, but I didn't have the spare cash that day. Maybe sometime in the next week or two.

$10 for an old Kershaw Leek 1660st with the older style serrations Barley Used.
$10 for a Victorinox Old Cross Alox Electrician Used in great shape.
$14 for a Leatherman Fuse Like New.

I saw a person who found a Sebenza for $60, if I remember correctly.

I really need to check the local shops more often and not only for knives.

These two old school butchers knives..full convex finest sheffield steel (according to label),electro vibro etched..1970 at latest.....$1 each....fine knives to use.......FES

Found a nice Robi Haas (no idea of value)
at a pawn shop for 2 bucks. Lovely patina, was very glad for the find, never found any knives at all though I visit pawnshops/ antique shops quite often.

Lets see:
Digicam Paramilitary 2 (during the middle of the Para2 shortage) $100
Moki Silver Feather $20
Boker Candy Stripe Congress $5
SOG Twitch 2 $5
Kershaw OCC Blur $5
Benchmade 940 (older 154cm model) $100

And a bunch of traditionals.

I got lucky finding a BM 635 a couple years at a local pawn shop after it was discontinued. It was on my bucket list but I procrastinated and it disappeared from BM's production line, which made me want it even more. It came in like new condition with the original blue box, doubt it had ever been carried. I paid $120 which isn't a steal, but not bad considering it's new condition and production status. Compliments my 630 nicely.

The one and only deal I ever got at a pawn shop.

I went in looking for some stolen property, not mine, somebody elses. The pawn broker had a Kershaw model 1005 in the case for $75.00, I offered him 20.

He rattled off something about it being made in America, I told him it wasn't, He insisted it was American made.

I told him if it was I would give him the 75 for it but if it wasn't the price would be 20, he agreed. He pulled it out of the case and there it was "Seki City Japan" on the other side of the blade.

What I didn't tell him was.
That was the first expensive knife I ever bought back in 1986, I had just got out of AIT and was headed to Harmony Church for some more training when a few of us made it to the mall knife shop in Columbus Ga.

One and only deal I ever got at a pawn shop. Not a fan of pawn shops, to much stolen property.

Found some nice Case knives, limited run. Can't remember which ones at the moment. Did come in a tin.

This old German made "African Trade Knife", with Rosewood scales!

I found it at the local Antique store, for $30.
We also have another one, that's been in the family as long as anyone can remember.
That one is still in daily use in the kitchen.

Both of these are similiar to the African Trade Knives, shown on Bernard Levine's homepage.

You have some nice finds, there. Wish I had that kinda luck around my neck of the woods.

My personal best is a Benchmade 910 mini-Stryker PE, tanto, nearly mint condition; $20! But I've also picked up Cold Steel Culloden,$50; a brand new Sog Spec Elite I at $50, a Benchmade 710 (in PE,ATS34) for $40 with minor (and I mean minor) edge/finish wear. Benchmades seem to be popular in my area, and (unfortunately for me) many pawn shops here have at least one knife nut on the payroll.

I am not sure I have ever been to a pawn shop, but I did
find a Benchmade 9050 afo on the ground at an Air Force base.
That was my first real knife.

Thank you. I was skimming this thread and I chanced on your post. I didn't read the name of the person you were quoting and I was like: "I wish I had bought some of those knives...Oh, wait a minute...."

The clerks know me and they also know if they will make me a deal that they have a very good chance at a sale. I have gotten a LOT of stuff from them over the past year and a half. They actual have a Spyderco Ti Military (non-fluted) and some kind of Greg Lightfoot Microtech (IIRC it was a LLC manual or somesuch) which they offered to me for $200. I passed on the Microtech because that is a serious chunk of change to me. Oh, and the Ti Millie is way over priced.
