I want to use some old hickory boards about 7/8" thick for handles. What's the best finish to use on hickory to maintain that "antique" look? BTW, I'm STILL looking for a source of carbon fiber concealex! Thanks in advance!

:
I have used flame and boiled linseed oil to get nice antique effects on hickory and other hardwood handles.
Rub the oil into the handle and wipe of excess. Use a propane torch and heat it up.
You can do it evenly and just barely turn the color on all the wood or hold the flame on just a little longer for a darker affect in places.
If the wood starts to dry out put some more oil on it and continue.
This also "fire hardens" the wood making it even stronger.
Be careful not to char the wood to heavily.
It can be done quite dark though without harm.
Practice on some scrap first.
