I am looking for a good firefighter forum like this one, can anyone steer me into a good direction?

Does anyone also know a good basic firefighting manual to start with?

Thx

They maintain one of the largest Fire sites on the net and they do have a forum. Or at least they did. 911 job forums also has a Fire/EMS section and other Public Safety divisions but at this point is primarily a LE forum. I'm sure I missed a ton of them.

PS I intentionally did not post direct links. IMVHO it is bad etiquette to post links to one forum in another one. My own thing.

firehouse.com is the largest and I like to read the "news" part, but the forums suck imho. Its hard to believe I'm on the same planet as many of the posters let along job....

Now the old watchdesk forums was great .Seemed just like the same stuff as at work. which is why they got shut down not at all PC .

I agree. While they are not the best forum they are pretty much the only forum that has any sort of decent membership.

Thx, i wan't to join the volunteer Firefighter's in my hometown ( non USA), and the commander told me they are building a new outpost half a mile from my house. They will do the job intervieuws at the end of the year, so i just wan't to be prepared for the intervieuw itself.

I have been thinking about buying: "Firefighter's Handbook: Essentials of Firefighting and Emergency Response" as a good basis to prepare myself. Does anyone have any experience with this book?

For training materials, I recommend www.ifsta.org

My department used their 'Essentials of Firefighting' courses, and they were very good. The 5th edition is now available.

I do agree with the firehouse website as a good resource, but their forums leave something to be desired.

ifsta is definitely the way to go as far as manuals, start with the essentials for good general info. good luck, ahgar
