The only knives I can really find that are 4 inches or less, and are made well are the Ontario Rat 3 and esee 3. Between the two I would buy the esee 3.

Are their any other knives under $150 and under 4 inches that you can recommend?

The Fallkniven F1 is an excellent all around knife in that size and price range. You can also find quality production and custom fixed blades knives for $150 or less in the exchange that would otherwise cost well over that.

Cold Steel 36M. Drop forged 52100 with a 58-59HRC. Should be able to take a serious licking and keep on ticking. Includes a leather sheath. Great value for its $80 street price.

The Becker BK16 is 4.375", a third of an inch isn't much to reprofile, and you would end up with a Great user with micarta scales for around $100-110 or $70 for just the knife.

That's a tough one - but there are some production blades that might fit the bill - my favorites are the Blind Horse Maverick, tops Swiss Basic Tool, Ontario Ranger Falcon, Scrapyard Yardkeeper CG, & Benchmade Nimravus Cub... But you might also look at tops UTExl, cs mini-tac, Benchmade Snody (various knives), BM Activator (and the model 190 - i forget his name), , Spyderco Moran(s), Browning (i forget his name) N690 steel skinner, and so on. I'm sorry to not have more suggestions, i'm running late... But there are good knives fitting the <4", <$100 criteria to be had, especially if you buy them on the secondary market... I hope this helps - peace

Best for what?

Exactly. If it's for woods use the Falcon is the way to go. If it's more of a carry issue then a TOPS wolf pup XL would do better. Or shadow tech back up or back up XL. There are a lot of choices out there and a search at knife center will fix it real quick for them.

Hess Knives has quite a few under $100.
Hess is definitely worth checking out.

knivesshipfree has some pocket bravos for quite cheap at the moment

I'd be on this one like white on rice, heck I'm not even in the market for one and find myself drooling at the current pricing.

Some of the plainer woodland specials too.

Fallkniven F1, Kolt, SK 1, H1, HK9, TK 1&2. All excellent knives all 4" or less. Good luck

If you are willing to enter the sub-3" realm, check out the Ghost Knives Banshee for around 75 bucks. It's awesome.

I've never seen one of those before. Looks nice.

Is amazing how much that looks like a Becker bk24 (d2 version of the bk14). Which runs about ~$44-50 iirc, and is a touch over 3in blade length. It also can be had with handle scales for only a few more dollars.

I agree with OCN, the Becker BK14/24 was the first thing I thought of.
Regardless of price, I would likely prefer the Becker due to familiarity with their 1095crovan, customer service and presence on here.

What are you looking to use it for? Personally I would be jumping across to the knife makers section here where you could get something really interesting for that money.
