It would be smart for you to search for earlier threads. This has been a very debated thread on many occassions. My personal choice has been a 5" clip point.
You will receive a different reply from almost everyone. I belive that a knife is used for utility first. The more you use a tool the more familiar you are with it.Also the better designed utility knives have the smae atributes as most combat knives. Saying that I think the Hobbit Warrior is one of the best pure fighters. I also would look at the Bowie style knives. You should qualify what your main task or style that you favor. THere are many valid choices out there.

Cheers,

In my mind there is the best (and there is only one). I will let you enjoy your own personal search, but let me point you in a couple of directions.

First is the Hobbit fighter at www.roundeye.com/ that embodies the modern fighting knife.

Second is R.J. Martin's designs at www.martinsite.com/ particularly the v-flat ground blades.

Third is, of course, James Piorek of Blade Rigger. Once again, I'd advise you to look closely at the flat v-ground blades. www.bladerigger.com

Fourth, but important, are the Millennium Fighters from Hossom knives. These knives are very fast, and very light, and hollow ground. Many of the knives listed above serve both fighting and utility purposes, but Jerry's serve no other function besides self defense. If you want something more general and utilitarian, he could certainly make it for you, however. www.hossom.com

I too enjoy the search!

Everyone has their own interests and needs when it comes to selecting their poison! You need to ask your self several basic questions:

1. What is the intended purpose/use of knife that you want to own? For example; show, protection, carving, hunting, etc....

2. Depending on your intended use; what size (scales and blade) do you want? For example; a large knife is harder to conceal, in the heat of battle - trying to rapidly unsheath a 12" bowie will get you dead....

3. What style of blade are you looking for?
Tanto, utility, drop point, etc.... There are different blade styles...

4. What type and or style of handle/scales do you want?

5. Finally....and the largest piece of the puzzle...... How much dough do you have to spend?

Blades are eye candy. Blades are power. Blades are art. Blades are a passion!
Part of the fun of owning a blade is the hunt for one! There are many out there. Take time to research and avoid the urge to jump on the first ones that you see.
