Considering the folders on the market today... what knives do you consider to be great deals? What great quality knives do you see at exceptional prices today?

Salt 1 by spyderco IMHO, hell of a little workhorse, can be found for about $50, needs almost no real maintenance, holds an edge well, gets easier to sharpen the more you do it, rust proof, easy one hand open/close, oh yeah, and its a Spyderco :D

IMO the Kabar Dozier is the one of the most bang for your buck EDC folders, it has zytel handles and AUS8A steel at $20 bucks.

JYD II with composite blade, should cost way more for the materials and quality you receive.

Kershaw RAM, I spent four hours with it today stringing and breaking beans and I was just amazed at the type of comfortable grips and how great of a blade shape it has.

Buck Vantage PRO worth twice of the selling price, but ONLY if you're lucky enough to find one that is built right (early lockup and centered blade).

Spyderco Tenacious
Spyderco Salt I
Spyderco Manix 2
Kershaw JYD Composite
RAT Izula
Case Sodbuster

IMO , the best deal right now is the Kershaw G10 Tyrade.

Others....
Buck - 110 - Alpha Hunter- Alpha Dorado
Kershaw - Storm II - Zing - OD series -Speed Bump
Kabar Dozier line
Rough Rider pocket knives

Kershaw OD-1 and Spyderco Tenacious. Both are very different knives, well built and have different uses in which one out does the other. Both are great in the kitchen as well, OD-1 being great for paring and the Tenacious excels at slicing.

I can never decide which to carry, so sometimes it's both.

Any FRN handled knife with a decent price - the Dozier, yes, the Griptillian, no. It's not that the Grip is a bad knife - just out of line for something with a mass produced injection molded part made for pennies.

Tenacious, Vex, and Vapor for imports. Great knives, great prices. Had they been US made, you'd have to add $30 to each, and some of that is marketing puffery because of the Made in USA claim.

On the other end, any S30V Ti framelock under $130. That can get you a Buck Mayo TNT, which is a great score compared to $400 and up.

Any Opinel under $10 - why I don't own more I don't know. They are easily modded. Using the same blade with a milled G10 handle, clip, and auto rotate collar to lock would be nice. Cold Steel didn't do a bad job with theirs.

Almost any reasonably priced TiN/TaN treated knife is a great bargain, simply because the stuff never wears off in abrasive environments and keeps looking good. No paint, gun coating, or teflon will. Next is DLC, which will blow a plain blade out of the water for slickness and finish. DLC approaches diamond in hardness and allows the underlying treatment to shine through - whether brushed or stoned. We've yet to fully explore it.

Of course, any $1.95 knife from a check-out counter is a bargain, and you get exactly what you pay for. Some aren't too bad.

Another vote for Spyderco's Tenacious.

Becoming quite the pocket hog amongst my EDCs.

I don't care what the price tag says...its a darn nice working, great feeling knife.

I'm going to throw in a vote for Rough Rider here. Every one I have is of very good quality, and can be had for around $10.00. Lots of "bang for the buck".

My nominees for best high-value knives:
  • Spyderco Tenacious - fit & finish + high quality + G-10 + phosphor bronze = $30!?!?
  • Buck Vantage Pro - S30V, G-10, Bos heat-treat & US made at a measly $45!!!
  • Onatario RAT 1 Folder - large-ish AUS8 folder for $25
  • KaBar Large Dozier - ditto ^
  • CRKT Drifter - great small EDC w/ G-10 under $20
  • CRKT Tuition - great flipper w/ Micarta handles + nice sheepsfoot blade for <$30
