Best Folder Sheath

I have been searching for the "perfect" cordura folder sheath for quite a while now. It needs to fit at least 1-1/2" belts for both vertical and horizontal carry. It must be wide enough to fit a full-sized folder. It should be as slim and inobvious as possible. And it needs to hold up under extended carry without showing the wear. I'm not asking much, am I? :)

I think I have carried just about every type available including:
  • generics from several on-line distributors
  • brand-labelled from Benchmade, Microtech, and Timberline
  • Brigade Quartermasters Two-Way Knife Pouch
  • Spec-Ops Super Sheath
  • BlackHawk Industries Pistol Mag/Knife Sheath
  • Eagle Industries Folding Knife Sheath
  • Triple Aught Design Gear Extreme Duty Folder Sheath

Out of all those I have ended up with two that work best for me.

For most of my folders and multi-tools I use the Triple Aught Design Gear Extreme Duty Folder Sheath (S1).

For thicker multi-tools and SAKs I use the Eagle Industries Folding Knife Sheath (KS-F). The Blackhawk is very similar and nearly as good, but I prefer the design of the Eagle.

So what are your preferences in folder sheaths? Do you like leather, cordura, kydex, or other? Do you wear them vertically, horizontally, IWB, or somewhere else? What are your favorite brands and models?

I'm always interested in learning about new options. Buying new knife accessories is almost as much fun as buying new knives. :D

I have two leather folder sheaths. Both by G2 ( Gary Graley ).
1 is for Horizontal Carry and 1 is for vertical carry.
I do not like Kydex for my knives ( personal preference only ) and since I like a sheath that is form fit to the knife ( without a flap ) leather is the only way for me. And I wear a 1 3/4 wide belt and Gary made both sheaths to fit. ( Bianchi Gun Belt - Leather double stitched ):D
Can not post picts here though I have a bunch on my PC .

Though I have never handled and of Lifters work , his work is excellent looking as well.
Depends on what you want to spend , I just can not see putting a $300 - $400 knife in anything but leather.
Others who have way more experience than me will chime in , I am sure you will find what you are lookin for .
Best of luck and post back with what you come up with if you dont mind. Happy Holidays to you and yours .

I haven't found anything to beat the TAD S1 for most knives I carry, folders in the 3-1/2" to 4+" range. Fits the TacElite I just got perfectly. Smaller knives either ride in the pocket or get something fancy in leather thanks to Gary ;)

Well I'm getting Normark to make sheaths for the Chinook and the Powerlock.
I told him the requirement of horizontal and vertical carry.
I'm still waiting to see the package to arrive.

Look at Bianchi(SP?) for superior workmanship. If that don't fill the bill then
look at making your own or have custom seath made.

I use a double Super Sheath, or whatever it's called, by Spec Ops at work. It's great for holding a multitool and flashlight, but the pouches are too big for a single-bladed folder.
G2's leather is great. I had one of his sheaths for a small Sebenza, and will have another one when I get another small Sebenza (to replace the one I traded away based on reasoning that escapes me at the moment).
I really don't care for sheaths for folders in general (unless it's a big SAK or something). If I'm going to wear a sheath, anyway, might as well carry a fixed blade-which I frequently do.

The TAD and Eagle sheaths look good, but I hate velcro, and will never buy another sheath/pouch with a velcro flap.

I had Normark craft me a fine kydex sheath for a BM 705. My specs were to work in a variety of carries accomodated through the small teklok I already owned. Additionally, it's primary purpose was to work as a neck sheath for those times(most of the time) when I don't wear a belt. Works great. One sheath for all purposes, but just fits one knife. The teklok makes it a bit bulkier than you may prefer for some purposes.

Worth every penny.

My self I prefer leather, but carry wise depends on deployment...

Sebenzas I like horizontal for easier deployment.
Vertical also works well but a little longer to get the
knife into play.

some knives dictate the style of carry, I do clip to my pockets everyday as well as wear a leather sheath on my belt, allows for more knives at one time ;)

Neck sheaths I've had before but found them to be limiting when worn beneath a shirt and not handy when drawing a razor between the open shirt, but many really really like that carry style.
