Best free photo software

IfranView is pretty good, but I'd say Paint.net is the best of all the freeware programs I've tried. Plenty of capabilities while still being relatively easy to use.

GIMP is OK, as long as you can dedicate the time necessary to become familiar with the user interface; it's a real mess, IMO. But there are future plans to address that issue in the upcoming year. What sort of camera do you have? Most digital camera makers have basic software tools that you can download from their websites. Nikon's ViewNX, for example. You don't even need to buy a Nikon camera to use it.
