Not garage sale, but pawn shop. Several years ago I was in the habit of hitting a few of the local pawn shops in search of used video games for my sons. I did this as a way of saving money. One day I glanced into a glass case that contained several cheap knives. Mixed among them was a maroon handled knife that vaguely looked familiar. I asked to see it, and it turned out to be a Dozier Wilderness. I kept my cool and asked what they were asking for it. The staff had no idea what it was, and I was quoted a stupid price. I paid for it and nearly ran out the door. I still have it after nearly 10 years and cant help but laugh each time I use it.

i was on a first name basis with every clerk in every pawn shop in my home town and i have made some pretty good hauls over the years. at one shop i went in and was looking on their counter where they had a bunch of cheap crap knives that i would probably throw away and saw a pure silver ceremonial dagger, when i say pure silver i mean the entire thing, the blade the handle the sheath and this puppy weighs about a good pound and has incan/mayan deities on it and beautiful design all down the blade and it had a price tag of 2.99 on it and i looked over at the guy running the place and asked "are you serious only 2.99 for this?" and he nodded and i walked up and gave him the dough and left. i wish my computer wasn't such a piece of crap or i would put some pics on. at another pawn shop that i spent at least a grand a year at buying knives i went in on a couple of occasions after work to drool and once the clerk showed me a microtech socom made with 154cm and i said i would buy it if i had money but i was broke so he actually gave it to me for nothing, he did the same another time and gave me a benchmade 730 ares, then another time he gave me an ontario knife company us army machete.

At a small flea market in NH a long time ago, I saw a knife in the shadow of a big old record player. Picked it up and it was a Remington R1123, both blades well sharpened but still pretty nice, great walk and talk, nice bone scales, had a 4-- written on a label. I asked how much and was told $4.00, which even then was hard to believe. John

i went to another pawn shop and found a Cherokee cutlery trapper that says 522 on the pivot end bolster they wanted 25.00 for it and i got it for 15.00. i got an 897 uncle henry for 12$ at another shop and this was after the schrade closure. probably one of the best deals i also got was a 7 ot golden cave bear all heavy with brass never been sharpened with a little tarnish and a leather sheath for 5$ at a thrift store. one of my most favorite knives is a 25ot schrade that i traded a dollar store knife for to a friend of mine it had a broken tip on the clip blade that i used for a screw driver for a long time until another friend of mine showed me how to refashion the tip, i've had that knife for 17 years and it has done more than it's share of work, i have carved on my school desk with it, gutted fish, used it for a hammer, gut my first deer with it, you name it that thing has been all over the place with me and you couldn't offer me any amount of money that would make me part with it.
