i have the shank of a drill bit that I want to use as a thumbstud, i would like to attach it to the blade as cheaply as I can. But I could get someone to solder it if no one thinks some brand of epoxy will not work. I will remove the ti n coating I suppose

I've never done it, but I would try the epoxy rather than soldering. No HT worries.
I don't think there is a need to remove TiNi, just make sure the surfaces are clean & rough.

Use a good quality epoxy, full strength.
Slow drying epoxy will have a tendency to run out of the joint. Prepare for this. I would try a Blutack dam to keep it in place.

thanks Im going to file a ridge around the stud to act as a collar for the glue. Ill keep my fingers crossed

I used JB Weld(slow curing stuff) on a Micarta spatula handle. It regularly gets soaked in water with other kitchen implements. Still holding together after 5 or 6 years.
