im looking for a new pair of hard knuckle gloves. the ones i have now are the factory pilot gloves, but the thumb fits be a bit awkwardly, and the first pair i had tore in the space between the the thumb and index finger. they are an awesome pair of gloves despite this flaw though. ive looked into the camelbak ones as well... they may be a nice option.

im looking for something that maintanes dexterity but still offers protection, and some leval of comfort.

so what are your favorites? how do you use them? for protecting your hands in a dangerous work environment, or for tactical use?

Camelbak makes several. This one is the magnum force.

I like my Rock Gardn FATE gloves - I use them for mtn biking but they seem to be the same cup o tea as the tactical ones

i tried out a few pair while on vacation overseas, heres what i came up with.

whats left out is the pair of Wiley X gloves that i had for a few months, they SUCK, don't waist your money. bad QC, seems separated, leather wore out, they were trash.

go someplace to try them on if you can, don't get them to tight, a little loose is best, get them wet and they'll shrink to fit a lot easier than stretch to fit.

(the times per day are an average, i tried to make it as equal as i could) my main gripe about all of them was the lack of a retention loop to hook them on my carrier, i sewed a cord loop on all of them.

DON'T trust those "S" shaped biners, they will let you down and you will loose your gloves.YMMV.

hatch,(wore them everyday at least 10 hrs a day, for 3 months) ran about 40. -45.00, good fit, padding, QC, good grip, finger movement,(staying cool when its 120 in the shade isn't going to happen) (enough dexterity to load AK or M4 mags, pistol mags after they broke in were easy as well.)

Damascus were great too,(wore them for 3 months, 10 hrs a day) they ran me about 45. -50.00, good fit, padding, QC, grip, was great, lot more dexterity than the hatch but didn't last as long, its a trade off. (enough dexterity to load AK or M4 mags, pistol mags after they broke in were easy as well.)

the mechanix( didn't last 3 months, got about 1.5 out of them) were nice but not as much protection and didn't last as long either, but the price is cheap so you can take more than a few pair.(enough dexterity to load AK or M4 mags, pistol mags no brake in needed on these,.)

blue force were alright,(wore them for 3 months,10 hrs a day) the grip seemed slick and the seems weren't sewn as well as the others, but not bad overall.
(enough dexterity to load AK or M4 mags, pistol mags after they broke in were easy as well.) if you can find the short cuff ones they are better, the ones i got had the higher cuffs like gauntlets, got in the way and made it hard to see my watch.

when my glove try out ended i still had some time left i went back to the hatch gloves.

this is what i came up with, thought about doing a video review but the "resort" we were staying at had issues with video and still cameras on sight and when off sight its tuff to find a place to stop and set up a camera without a bunch of locals wanting to get in on the action.

+1 on what heresthedeal said.

i have been wearing Hatch brand leather gloves pretty much in entirety now. But the ones I have are just the leather kind w/ no hard knuckle. So all I can really comment on is the build quality of their leather products. They are good. I have two pairs and have put them through a lot of use.

I also have had reasonable experience with the Blackhawk brand, hard knuckle gloves. They are called SOLAG. really nice. I did wear them out at the fingers, but not fault to Blackhawk. Normal wear and tear.

The Hatch brand gloves fit better though, and conformed well to my lady-like fingers. Blackhawks had a little more slack.

I have a pair of Oakley hard knuckled gloves too, and while the price was great (THANK YOU US STANDARD ISSUE PROGRAM!), the build quality wasn't as strong as Hatch. They are wearing out with moderate use. Again, normal wear and tear, but they did wear out faster than my others.

Hope this helps!

Heard good things about the Oakley SA2.

I've had the Camelback gloves for about a year, with weekly wear. One seem popped early on and was an easy fix. Otherwise, first rate. They don't stretch much when wet, which I find a plus.

I use Oakleys, but they are starting to fall apart after about 2 years of use. I never knew Camelpack made gloves. I will certainly have to check them out!

Funny I was just talking to a buddy about this last night and he too mentioned the Oakleys. Based on the pics I've seen so far though, I think I prefer the Camelbak Magnum Force gloves.

I use Mechanix brand with the knuckle and finger protector for everything from mountain biking to hunting, chopping, and shooting. I love them and have found that for 30 bucks you really cant beat them.

I checked out the website for Mechanix and I agree, they have alot of awsome gloves to pick from depending on what the task is. hmmmm Camelback or Mechanix? I guess cost is the only factor. Good thread Pitbullshogun.
