Leaning towards a Hawk that has a great defensive design (tactical) but is still useful for general hatchet use in a pinch?

So, thoughts/opinions on which Tomahawk has the best of both worlds?

The answers provided will help empty my wallet.:D

If you want something better than drop forged Cold Steel products and appreciate more traditional hammer forged tools, Fort Turner makes affordable hawks that meet your criteria.

i can't imagine a better general purpose hawk than a Cold Steel Trail Hawk, dollar for dollar.

if there are others that are that light, but still useful, and near the price, i would buy plenty of 'em.

that's why i like to mount them on our composite handles so much;

they just work.

I agree that the Cold Steel Trail hawk or Norse Hawk. They are great for both practical and fighting uses.

The Cold Steel Norse Hawk is my favorite bargin hawk.

A K5 hawk is on my short list, however....:D

H&B Forge gets my vote. I've owned three H&B hawks and one Cold Steel Norse hawk. I think the H&B's are hands down better hawks for the money.

Edited to add that H&B will also add a spike to their hawks on request. I had it added to a Lady's hawk and it turned out great.

The best hawk for your buck is the hawk that is closest when you have a buck.

:)

There. I said it! I've been dying to say it...and I finally got it out. Of course you fellas will instantly recognize this inane statement as the same comment that is trotted out by some wise guy during one of the 1,000 "which gun is best" / "which knife is best" topics posted to 1,000 forums over the past 12 months! :barf:

Yeah, but which gun is best in a SHTF situation?

I had actually looked at K5 tactical? No good?

I had a K5 TAC spike hawk and it was a very good hawk...a little heavy...but built like a tank. The problem is not the product...the problem is there seems to be many who believe that the guy who owns the joint is not a very good businessman...he sometimes takes a veeeeeery long time to deliver his product and promises of shipments are not always kept. :thumbdn:

Aaaarrrghhhh!
Lets not get that a'way! :)
I've left far more forums than I can count because of the "my PhenomenalHumongousAutomaticLeadLobberUberSniper (PHALLUS) is better than yours" syndrome.

Oi, it was a joke. I believe it is the most cliche question EVER on any kind of manly forum. And besides my PHALLUS is much larger than yours.:D

Thar I wuz, innocently writin' my name in the snow, so cold I could only use lower case letters...

Its difficult for me to label tools & weapons as "tactical". What the devil does that mean anyway? Multi-purpose? Made of the newest alloy or composite? Ergonomic?
I liked the Oetzi post, especially when you consider that his archery equipment & implements were the "assault" and "tactical" weapons of the day.

I learned thru use, the many advantages of the Norse shaped blades. Now I'm thinking along the lines of reverse-engineering. Think of all the uses you might ask of a hawk, scribble them down, draft a design; then either create it or go actively searching for it.
Whad'da ya need? A Hawk with a knuckle duster tonfa grip head? Zair kalt!
I want a removeable head & a magnesium shaft, or mag insert in the shaft; but thus far I ain't seen it.

tac⋅ti⋅cal

–adjective
  1. of or pertaining to tactics, esp. military or naval tactics.
  2. characterized by skillful tactics or adroit maneuvering or procedure: tactical movements.
  3. of or pertaining to a maneuver or plan of action designed as an expedient toward gaining a desired end or temporary advantage.
  4. expedient; calculated.
  5. prudent; politic.

lol Q, I guess I had that coming.
I know the definition, but whats tactical for you or I may not be tactical for others. Definitions are usually generic descriptions of objects, events, ideas & such.
I think function defines form, or should. Sticking the 'tactical' label on anything is just a marketing ploy, nothing more.
Flyfishing is fun, flyfishing for catfish shows "tac-tackle" naivete.
