Which knife is more preferable as far a comfort? I suppose it's a matter of what each individual likes but the LB7 is pretty smooth. I also like the LB8 though it is a tank to carry around. The 7OT is an all around good knife but a bit rough around the edges. I think the 7OT was geared towards a work environment whereas the LB7 and LB8 are more of hunter's knife. I think most hunters would prefer a fixed blade. From the looks of things the LB7 is most popular. Has anyone ever seen an LB8 with the LB8 designation stamped on the opposite side of the blade?

Hedger:

In the hand, you can,t beat a 123OT or 124UH when it comes to comfort with a pretty hefty blade. At 4" with a full sized clip blade, I like the smooth profile. However, if you are in for some hard core cutting, the sabre grind on the LB7 or 7OT is what you want.

They have a lanyard hole, and they fit nice in a pocket too.

Never seen LB7 or LB8 on the back.

Nice knives thawk. If I get a chance I will try to post the LB8. Not sure why this was done but there must be a few out there like it. I noticed on the 7OT the blade is rougher than the LB8. My lb7 is similar. The LB8 blade is smooth.

One thing that makes a difference too is if you are talking a carbon 7-OT vs the others too. Some people might argue the true prince of this group is the rough around the edges carbon example just cause of the steel. As far as carrying goes any of the LB-7 types are to me a bit heavy. They really do weigh down your pockets. Now the heavy is what makes them such a good knife too...solid but I prefer them in there sheaths. In the Bear Paw Family I like the Smokey LB-5 as an in-your-pocket edc. Not too heavy and not too small with it's 3 and 3/4" closed size. I've never seen the stamp on the reverse either for the record.

i have carried an LB 7 since 1979, lost it got the free replacement and am now on my 5th edition for my personal knife. i never have carried it in my pocket but on my hip pocket next to my billfold. this, at least for me, acts as a natural sheath, handy and not in the public eye where so many are now paranoid of knives.
i recently discovered the LB 8 and love the way it feels. it feels much smoother to the touch than the LB 7 so now carry it as a dress knife. carry it the same way and don't feel any weight difference.

My collection centres round the LB-7 cause it's my fav Schrade design but it is heavy compared to a LB-5. I like to carry in my front pocket because I always lose stuff from my hip pockets but I get ya. That Bear Paw is definitely all the knife you need for anything the world throws at you. Cops would hassle me here if they picked up on a lockback that size in back pocket and I'd likely end up losing it so I don't bother. If I could I would. Cheers
