I know that there is a grace period with hand-guns, but whats the best inexpensive gun to get; well, even if I had to wait on a pistol?

Where are you that you need to wait on a handgun? There might be restrictions on rifles in unenlightened states. Also, define "inexpensive".

Shouldn't he have to explain what "best" means as well, since that word means so many different things to so many different people.

What you plan to do with it? Shoot squirrel, deer, whales, black helicopters, tin cans, ubercommandos? Do you live in the plains, scrubs, heavy woods, mountains, near water, near the ocean, etc?

If you are going to wait anyway, you can order just about anything at Wal Mart from a Marlin Model 60 to a SIG M400/AR.

AR-15 Bushmasters at my local walmart. I believe they also have a few other military style .223's like Sig, and a .308 style AR10.

What are you wanting it for?

the Ruger 10-22 is, in my opinion, the best fun gun rifle you will ever lay down money on. I have been shooting mine for over 25 years. My Dad's has way more years on it than that.

Get one with a synthetic stock and stainless barrel, and I don't see how you could ever beat it!

We need more details, though.

It is like asking "what is the best shoe I can get on a budget"

Whom should I date?

I bought my Windham SRC at Wally World for $799 + tax, and haven't suffered a moment's regret. Of course, you have to buy sights or glass for it.

My Walmart doesn't carry any handguns. They carry a handful of AR15 including a Bushmaster, a Colt (6920LE - I think), a $599 DPMS with a slick side and flat top. I believe there is a Sig made AR as well.

Real question, why the f*** are you buying guns from Walmart where the workers have no knowledge about firearms and more than likely no experience?

I can easily see some dumb sh** there saying that 9x18 and 9x19 are the same, or that there is a difference between 9mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum or that 9mm kurz is different than 380 acp? That they only have ammo for a 40 S&W and not a 40 cal Sig 226. That 7.61x51 is what Nagants shoot and that all firearms are more accurate while held sideways.

WTF?

I wouldn't rely on any store telling me things i should know.

Or in the case of my Wal Mart. They don't sell AR15s because "those are assault rifles and shoot full auto. Those in the case? Those are Bushmasters."
