Best inexpensive watch?

I have a 13yo buddy who is working his butt off this summer and wants a new watch. He has saved $70 and will go as high as $90. I told him I could help him find a watch that would last 5-10 years for that kind of money. He likes SS or two tone, and mentioned an orange face:eek: Maybe with your help we could get him set up with a nice quality inexpensive watch. Suggestions please? The orange face:cool: is strictly a fashion statement and definately subordinate to the important stuff. He is working as a field hand, and this is the literal definition of hard-earned money. Thanks. Oh, and if another twenty bucks or so will get him something way better, we'll swing it.;)

Those Seiko's seem to be highly regarded by many owners. I've seen them come out of ASIA into the USA for about $110 delivered.

Luminox might work well for him too. Take a look at that line. I know Moteng has a simplistic listing of them in addition to several other on-line dealers.

I would go for the Seiko auto. Seiko and Pulsar quartzs would be good choices too.

For around $70 you can get a Poljot 17 Jewep mechanicl hand wind in a variety of styles. This is an exceptional deal as long as you don't mind a manual wind.

If you want an auto the Seiko automatics are real nice watches, and if you look carefully you can sometimes find them for under a hundred dollars.

St. Moritz makes great looking watches in their Storm models. Screw-down crown and case back, all SS, very military looking. Great dive watches, a lot of divers around here wear them.

Amazing quality and workmanship. Try one one and you'll see what I mean; I love both of mine.

Thanks for the tips, guys. The search is on. I don't know who the great discounters are, but I'm working my way through them. I want one of those Poljot Aviators myself now. I love fantastic values..it's a skinflint thing, or maybe I just work too hard and don't get paid enough.

I would go for a Seiko if at all possible. Great bang for the buck.

Why not try Casio's G-Shock models? There's a couple that come in SS for under $100. Not sure about an orange face but Fossil( :barf: ) makes an orange faced watch for $50-$75. Good luck with your search!

I just encountered the St. Moritz line of watches. For the price range that you indicated, the new Himalaya watch seems to fit. Nice titanium case for a nice price. I haven't found the movement but I would assume that it is quartz because of the price. Here is another site where you can purchase.

Hope it helps.

Second the St. Moritz. My wife has worn the Pathfinder Ti for some years and beat it silly. Swims daily in it and it is a little comsmetically worse for wear, but continues to chug along. Good value for the money.

Citizen makes a nice dive watch with colored faces.

If you want a nice watch with a more standard color, I would go for a Swiss Army.
