Just curious.... who is considered the best kami in the HI group? Or is that a matter of personal preferance?

Lal Bhadur Bura is the best Kami.

I wont say who is better then the other, but I will say I like Shers work. My favorate kukri is by bura though.

Bura Bishwakarma is my choice and liking. Most of my lightweight Khukuris were special orders made by Bura.

Last time I have a very neat 25" Sirupati made by Sonu weighing about 3 lbs. It is too heavy for me so I sold it to one of my big size friend. I think Sonu is one good Kami but if I'm not mistaken he is no more with HI/Birgorkha.

I know each of them have their strenghts and characteristics that make their khuks special, it would be good to make a kind of compilation (don't know if this is the exact word).

But in another way, those guys are artists. So "best" is hard to say.

I think "favorite" is better in this case than "best"...of course, *I* don't have to negotiate their pay with them.

I think Bura may be the best, if you can describe best as the kami with the most experience overall, and one who consistantly turns out quality pieces, but Sher is my new favorite. Last couple have been Sher stuff and wow, he builds them heavy duty:thumbup:

Maybe some kamis do a better job at some kuk styles and others show their stuff with other styles. For example, Sher is known for producing stout, heavy kuks. Given this, I might like Sher's choppers but not his Sirus or Kobras. Just my thoughts.

Another thought is that those kamis who have established a reputation for producing quality kuks, remember what got them there, and not rest on their laurels.

I sure like my last two Khadkas, but he's sort of a solo act, isn't he?

Simple.....course Yangdu & THAT NDN....will say I'm biased..Durba!!Good luck finding one of his blades!
THE DUCK!

I have this nice little Durba...well tended by the dust bunnies....:D

Bura puts out amazing stuff. Thin, straight, pointy, very symmetrical. Some of Kumar's stuff is right on his heels.

The khuk I reach for most is by Sher. That's as much of a pattern issue as anything. It's the only 18" WWII I have. Some kamis develop favorite patterns, and get better at them than anyone else in the shop.

All of the kamis are great, or they wouldn't get their rice.

Yup!!!! :D

Uncle Bill offered several of us a job at the arun, I think it was $0.50 a day and all the rice we could eat. I didn't take the job because Uncle Bill just didn't realize how much rice I can eat.;) :o
Besides I like my rice in a mixture of grains, real wild ndn rice, short grain white and brown rice, pearled barley, millet, spelt, rye berries, groats, and any other grain that sounds good at the time. Very healthy for you and keeps you going. <VBEPEG>
Besides that the thoughts of the charpy scared me too death!!!!:thumbdn:  :barf:

And Tohatchi I wouldn't broadcast having ownership of a Durba very loud or that Dadgummed DUCK will leave his cave of one legged dancing girls and bat guano and "lift" it from where you have it hid.;)

Hi folks
Whilst we are on the topic of kamis,I just thought I'd enquire if anyone knows
which kami uses a flower,or blossom(side on view) as his makers mark, have been unable to find this particular mark on the website. All help appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the flower is Dil. I have a JKM-1 by Dil -- very nice work!

Cheers mate, thanks a lot! I have 3 Khukuris by this maker and they are all excellent work.
