for light chopping its tough to beat the 14" fiskars. cheap too.
pretty sharp as is, but it helps to remove some metal and get past the softer stuff on the surface. improves edge retention some and makes them better cutters.
Just pick up the Estwing hatchet at the hardware store, Or the Fiskars. Neither will break and both will do what your wanting without any problem and with minimal expense.
