I need a cheap small (read::sheeple friendly) knife that will be a replacement for a #5 Opinel. (Didn't lock and has a loose pivot that has closed on me MANY times) My Camillus Sizzle is amazingly sheeple friendly even in black, but I'm afriad of it opening if I carry it loose.

William henry kestrel with 2 blade is a top knfe has a solid lock.

Why not get a SAK? At 2.5" I don't really see the point of a lock - a good backspring would do fine. If you're dead-set on it, the SOG Sculptura is pretty neat, and a damned good cutter. About $30-$35 online. There's also the CRKT Snap Lock - under $30 at a lot of places, a decent cutter (though a bit thick at the edge) and a lot of fun to play with. Hell, you could wear that thing around your neck and people would probably think it was a tribal charm or something. But don't you have a Calypso Jr.?

The Spyderco Salsa is a great little tool, fills the hand well and the cobra hood makes it easy to open and operate.

the Spyderco Kiwi is only 2", but it gets my recommendation as well. locks up as solid as any Spydie LB, and looks very elegant. i've never freaked anyone out with mine. runs about 50 bucks after shipping, maybe a little more.

the CRKT Rollock is dirt-cheap at about 20-25 shipped. AUS-6 blade, at 2.25", it's a little closer to the size you want. it's definitely locking, and what a perfect excuse this would be to buy such a unique and fun design, huh?

Spyderco Dragonfly would also be nice, but probably best in SS (i don't care for the integral clip on the FRN model). SS runs about 35 bucks.

i'd probably get the Rollock, just 'cause it looks so fun.

abe m.

Yeah, the stainless steel handle Dragonfly would be a good choice. Or how about a Mini-Pika?

My Calypso Jr scares people/draws too much attention (go figure). I want something I can deploy and close quickly.
The Rollock sounds nice, though the new Rollock 2 is AUS4/420J2 (Better hunt down a 1)
When I first got on this board, the 1st knife reccomended to me was the SOG Sculptura, so I'll look into that.

How about a Mouse II? I have a Spyderco Mouse and it is a great little knife that has a very solid lock up. :D

Thanks! I'm receiving an original mouse in a trade, so hopefully that will do

And the S30V Mouse II with G10 scales is a great user too.
;)

It's sad that a CalyJr. would freak people out. If it's legal where you are, I would try to educate them. If it's not, then use the mouse.

Good luck.

I mean people as in strangers off the street. The thing with the Mouse is that it's like new, so I can't bring it to myself to use it. Gonna grab a SAK or the Sculptura, the Mouse 2 is 80$ =/

Tim Wegner has a Mouse II Lite that comes with a 440c blade and FRN handles that look like G-10. The best part is that he only wants $40 for it. something to look into to if you like the Mouse but don't want to use the new one you have.

I'm more or less looking for the same thing. Check our the Benchmade 555 also the Mini Ritter (equipped.org)
Gook luck,
Let us know what you decide. :)
