Hey guys! Because I am moving via airplane soon, I need to pick up something to put my folders into inside my luggage. What do you guys use?? Roll ups . . . Blade Forums bags from 1SKS . . . etc???

Recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!:D

I am only going to be taking a dozen or so folders!:(

Jason - I've got a couple of Les Robertson's LDC bags and they are very well made. There is a 20 knife bag he has that goes for $100 IIRC. When full, it's not too big so its good to pack in a suitcase. Highly recmmended!

I use a BFC knife bag and have no complaints about it at all. It holds ten folders, and I also got the insert that fits inside and holds ten more. It'll fit any folder at least up to AFCK size quite easily, but the Sifu or small fixed blade will have to ride sideways inside the bag but not inside one of the pockets. It has two zipper pulls which is good because you can lock it with a padlock if you want to. Very well made, no tearing or zipper problems, etc. And it has the BFC logo. Haven't studied any other knife bags, but this one works well for me, and IIRC it's only about $30.

Jason,
I've been pleased with the knife bag from Brigade's over in Kennesaw. Holds smaller folders like a BM 721 and big folders like the Sifu. Smaller fixed blades with sheaths like a Pikuni and a WM-1 will fit with a bit of "encouragement". Search the link below for knife bag (I musta goofed the direct link). Best of luck and stay safe!

I use a 'Bucket Boss' tool roll from Duluth Trading. I think it cost about 8 bucks and does the job.

Which one did you pick? Does it work for you?

I have a Kangaroo 6 that works great for folders and will carry a knife up to 5" closed, but the Commander fits tight. If I carry a fixed blade I use a Sack-up.

The Knife bag/Range bag designs are nice, but take up too much room.

:D

I hate to be a downer, but you need to seriously consider the security of your knives. In a recent trip, my wife's checked luggage was subject to search. The bag contained a Leatherman Wave. After the search the bag was locked again, using the zipper-pulls. Upon pickup at baggage claim, one of the zipper bottoms had "broken" away - guess what, the only item missing from the bag was the Leatherman.

Gentleman, ladies, there are unscrupulous people who are using the events of September 11, 2001 to their personal advantage. The search is being used to identify items for theft.

The moral of the story? Secure your stuff. Consider using a hard-case with solid, built in locks - or locking areas that make it difficult to get at the lock, and for God's sake use a solid lock.

I can sum it up in one word...fantastic!!!
The thing holds just about any knife you can think of. The largest knife I have in it right now is an EK bowie. The overall length is somewhere around 10". That's in one of the pockets designed for carrying a fixed blade. If you want you can put a larger fixed blade sidways in one of two large compartments. The two problems I can see are: 1. Small folders have to be secured with a pocket clip or the fall down inside there pocket and are hard to get out.
2. Because the bag is so big you put so many knives in it that it becomes very heavy.:) Another drawback could be that it's large so putting it in baggage may be a problem. After all that I am still planning on buying another..heheheheheheh.

I agree, a hard case is your best bet. You can a good large one with locks for about 30 bucks at costco. I recently needed cases for my audio gear and didnt have time to get a pelican shipped to me. So, i went up to costco and bought a couple of these cases. I have owned them for about 2 years and my audio gear is in perfect conditon. Best of all they are CHEAP. I cannot stress how important it is i believe to protect an investment. I have a friend who recently bought a new digital audio recording system for about $1000, and i cant remeber how many times i told him to get a pelican case, cause he'll be sorry when he drops the system on the floor(he's REALLY clumsy). Well sure enough, he dropped the system on the floor and its busted.

Currenty have all knives locked in a pelican case. Keeps the kids out!

The case is waterproof and holds a lot of other stuff as well.

Just curious - Which Pelican case met your needs for storing your knives? and Where did you buy it?

Thanks
