going to get a spyderco szabo for $176 but would like to tap into the BF collective knowledge on the best knife for $170 bucks or less

What are you going to use it for?

Do you want an EDC folder? A slicer? A kitchen knife? A combat knife? A beater? A fixed blade? A neck knife?

There isn't a single knife that is better than every other knife ever made...it all depends on what you want to use it for.

I assume that your talking about a 2.5-4" folding knife? Spyderco Para 2 sprint of some sort.

not any type of knife i would prefer something that doesnt have black g-10. and on tactical edc beater i already own a benchmade 275 so that's covered . i am looking for cool factor i would say. but a flipper would also be nice

Zt0550 gen 2
Gayle Bradley
Para 2- blue M390 - skip lunch, lift up the couch cushions for 4.95:)

Interesting enough,if you bought all 3 it would be less than a Large Sebbie...

First two from the exchange and last one from BBS.

Just sayin..

Spyderco Gayle Bradley is virtually impossible to beat in terms of value and quality of parts ($110ish on the exchange).

Other great choices:

Benchmade 710 (M390 or CPM-M4);
Benchmade 940;
ZT 560 (somewhat expensive and not quite worth the high price);
Spyderco PM 2 (way over-hyped but still a solid choice; would recommend any of the others first).

One of my newer purchases is the Benchmade 300SN Ball Axis Flipper. It is one of the smoothest flippers I own. You should check it out.
