This might be a little more in line with the EDC people. Rarely, you run into people that know anything about knives or flashlights. Some might have a rudimentary knowledge of both, but a hundred dollars is the most a lot of people will go for. Kershaw and Fenix are naturals at this price. I'm going to bump it up a little from here.

what was wrong with the old thread? I dont really see the need for this one, and 100 is not the most a lot of people will go, 100 dollars is how much I paid for the cheaper knives in my collection, but its just an arbitrary number isnt it? lots of the people on this forum overspend me by hundreds on edc knives.

and kershaw? meh, not to diss companies but maybe kershaw doesnt make anything I like so I dont see how they are a "natural" when you can buy benchmade, spyderco, fallkniven and boker and at least those companies offer designs I like.

asking for "whats the best XX" at a price point is fine but how many of these do we really need? certainly not enough to warrant 2 threads by the same person.

Thanks for your non-input p mcmanis, To some people that belong to a volunteer fire company a hundred dollars is important in this economy. Everything is under extreme scrutiny. If you would like to donate some gear, it would be greatly appreciated.

dear person not paying attention, see

50 bucks? kabar dozier and one of those small fenixes

100 bucks? I would get the same light, the thing is way too bright in even the worst situations and its small enough to always have, so that gives you 80 dollars to buy a mini grip or endura or whatever fits your taste. you can get a zd189 endura for just over 80 dollars in brg.

youre welcome.

and if you really need some gear donations, say that. dont try and disguise your "I have X dollars so what do I get" topic by trying to guilt trip me, and dont make 3 damn threads about it. volunteering for a fire department is honorable work, but that doesnt mean you get cart blance to do whatever you want. there are rules and everyone should follow them because then things work smoother. Im working hard too, I throw money at the government so I can get a college degree which someone is convinced I need to get any sort of decent job. You want me to donate 100 dollars so people can buy knives? Well I would if I could, but thats a textbook that I need, 100 dollars I need to fill my car up with gas because I have to live at home to afford school, thats 100 dollars I need to feed myself or to buy printer privelages. Im sure money is tight, but youre not the only one.

I only have my knives because my parents are generous enough to give me some of their money on holidays and I have a very nice grandmother and aunt who do the same. If you are so desperate for 100 dollars, swallow you pride and ask someone you know can spare it.

I'm not sure why this turned into a personal attack. I'm trying to justify approval of budget items in a small town. Asking about knives and flashlights at different levels shouldn't get anyone all riled up. So far, I'm getting few suggestions and much crap.

because you made 3 topics instead of just asking in one. let me show you an example of how you could have worded one post to take care of all these questions at once:

So me and the guys I work with at the fire department dont have a lot of money to buy gear since were from a small town and so I wanted to know if I had say, 50 or a 100 dollars, what knife and flashlight could I reasonably get?

then you could simply refer to the "do you edc a flashlight and a knife" thread for unlimited money questions since that tends to be a very subjective topic.

if I can do it, so can you. on top of that, I actually made an effort to give you some suggestions and you accused me of wasting space with "non input".

Well, Mr p mcmanis, do you have any recommendations in low, medium and unlimited price ranges? Can you make any suggestions in equipment or only in format?

For $100 you can pick up a Mini-grip and a small Fenix and be very happy with both.

What are your requirements in a knife - blade length, PE or CE, blade design, etc?

Well, my IQ just dropped 50 points.

I'm not fussy. Fenix L1Tv2 Q2 and a Spyderco Endura.

There's lots of knives and light to choose from, it would come down to personal preference. Here's some combo's I'd go with:
Inova X5 and a Spyderco Centofante 3---$96
Fenix L1D and a Spyderco Endura 4---$105
Fenix E01 and a Spyderco harpy SS---$93
Fenix E01 and a Spyderco Endura ZDP-189---$100

this thread has lost focus, I think popcornpicker should start a new one.

Perhaps bump it up to $125?
