I've been looking for a good folder that can serve as a good edc knife as well as a knife that can handle more heavy duty chores on hiking and fishing trips. The Benchmade 940 has really caught my eye. What do you reccomend? It needs good steel (I'm not a steel snob though), at least 3 inches blade length, good lock-up, and under 150.
If i decide to buy the 940 where is the best place to buy one. I see it at 125 on amazon. is anywhere else cheaper? Thanks for your help.

there are so many benchmades, kershaws, spydercos, emersons, and others that meet your criteria, that this is a difficult question to answer.

the kershaw zt line is pretty nice. i have a few spydercos and emersons in your price range that i really like.

but since you already like the 940, you should get that one.

I'm pretty pleased with the Spyderco Gayle Bradley - very good steel and quite stout.
This weekend I fondled a Spyderco Stretch... veeery nice, indeed.
Kershaw has had a few knives that are quite nice, too.
I'm trying to like the Benchmades but they just don't seem to feel right in my hand.
I've bought from knifeworks and cutlery shoppe and knives ship free.

source - me and my relatively uninformed opinion

I've been carrying a 940 since shortly after they were introduced. A year or so ago, I decided that it was time for something different. After spending quite awhile looking, I couldn't find anything that I liked more than my 940. It is SO smooth, effortless to open and close, and easy to carry. There are tougher knives, but the 940 has always been tough enough for me. It's a darn fine knife for $125.

Benchmade 755 at KW is going for $149.96. An amazing price for an amazing knife IMHO.

I have been loving the new benchmade bone collector

Do they make knives for under $300? I haven't defiled my hands with a sub $300 knife for many years.

What would you DO with a $150 knife anyway? Stab bums with it? Cut hairshirts to size? Bend it against a stick of butter?

There is simply no use for any knife that has a price tag of $300 or less. Completely inferior workmanship, steel, and a total lack of tactical video goodness to go with it.

Word on the Bone Collector I have been loving using mine out in the woods since I got it a month or two ago. One of the tougher knives in the price range.

However after careful deliberation I have chosen the A.G. Russell Folding Sting (titanium) to be the best deal for under $150. With its very modest price of only $100 it is a very stout little titanium framelock with a well engineered 154 cm blade and incredible fit and finish for the price.

What???

I own a few benchmades (mini-grip, ritter m4 grip, barrage, ambush and vex)...However, if I was going to say which knife under a $100, I would go with a lone wolf cheyenne (will be ordering a longhorn soon)...

3.3 inch blade, thicker than the full size grip, razor sharp, s30v steel and I just love the feel of the FRN and handle shape (having said that, the mini-grip has the best jimping and "grippiest" feel of all my knives including the full sized griptilian).

I seriously hope you're being sarcastic.

As for the OP question, there are a LOT of good knives for $150 and under, all depending on what features and uses you're looking at. I'm just now starting to hit the $100+ ranges of knives myself, so can't give any personal experience recommendations. I can say I've heard great things about the 940, so if it's caught your eye so heavily already I'd say go ahead and get it.

He says he hasnt touched a sub $300 blade in years, but a few weeks ago he made a post saying he bought a primitive bowie from Cheaper Than Dirt

He seems to be posting stuff like that in a bunch of topics - pretty sure he's just joking

Looks like he's trolling to me.

Bingo! He is being a troll.

To answer the OPs question I will go along with some of the others and say the 940 would be a fine choice and I am sure you will like it but if you look around there are many nice knives in your price range.
