Hi, all.
I have two different sized survival tins, and both of them needed a knife/cutting tool inside them:
Here are the two tins with dimension and descriptions:
Large tin (Trangia mess tin)
Exterior dimension: 16.5x9x6.5 cm
Interior/Blade length(with or without sheath): 15.5cm max (6.1 inches)
***********************************************************
Mini tin (post card tin, not Altoids tin)
Interior/blade length(with or without sheath): 9.5cm max (3.75 inches)
***********************************************************
Qualities I am looking for
1) Must fit inside tin (6in for large tin, 3.75in for small tin)
2) Either fixed or folding, sturdy and good build/quality (non-razor type)
3) Thinner(or minimum handle material) and straight profile with good geometry for hard use (no finger knife or karambit types)
4) Either will need to survive light or some degree of batoning, especially the large tin knife
5) Preferably carbon steel or hard enough for possible ferro rod striking
6) Preferably easy to find/replace, no collector items or art piece that I probably won't baton on
Current candidates I owed:
Large tin: ESEE Candiru
Small tin: Tops Turley23, CRKT MK5, SAK lumberjack
Any ideas on what else may fit the qualities and the task or do you think the current candidates are the best for their task?
Thanks for helping!
