I just want to see what you think are the best knives that can be purchased for under $10 or better yet even under $5.

I've been recommended to try out Rough Rider knives to test out different patterns for traditionals before going higher end. But honestly from what I've seen and heard about Opinels and Rough Riders I take the Opinel every time.

If you increase your budget to $25 you will have a LOT more options. As thats the price point where I usually buy knives at, if you can think of a design you want chances are you can find a decent knife at around that price. At $10 you are generally dealing with cheap stuff with bad lockups and poor steel material for the blade, and may or may not be safe to use depending on how lucky you are. In short your options are very limited.

There are some Sanrenmu under $10 shipped, depending where you look.

I think you can still get the Cold Steel Kudu for under $10 depending where you shop, but postage will put it over that of course.

The Kudu gives you a lot of knife (4¼") for the money.

How about the Chinese copy of a Mora Clipper or HighQ called the Wahoo Killer? I was just given one and it does take an edge. I don't know if it will hold it though.

There is a mora or two around that price, not including shipping. Other than the svord mini and opinels and srm's/enlans, etc there is not much else out there worth buying, imho. Raise it to 25 bucks not including shipping and I could write a long list of good stuff.

Opinel goes without saying.

What else besides opinels? I'm just curious.

The knife I use the most for work is the Victorinox Stylus. Bought it on closeout for $5.00. I think you can still get them fir $10 or less on eBay.

More 511 is only $8.00. Can't vouch for it since I don't have one, but I'm confident you'll get eight dollars worth of use from any Mora.

A 6" full tang utility/boning knife from Old Hickory is only $9.99. So are the 8" slicer and 7" butcher knives.

I think you can snag a mora #1 for that price. You will probably have to mess with the sheath a little though.
