Well, I've never used a knife that even broke the 200$ barrier, so I guess I can just suggest to you my 5 favorite folders. If you're asking for 5 knives that will not exceed 300$ when purchased at once, my list should still work for you.
(In no particular order)
1. Victorinox Farmer. I really like the Alox models from Victorinox for the way they feel in hand. The thicker blade gives it a more rigid feeling, though it thins out enough towards the tip to still cut like a SAK should. The Awls are better on Alox models too IMO. Great versatility due to the tool selection, excellent cutting perfomance, rust-proof enough to toss in the dishwasher without thinking twice and a 25$ price point.
2. Byrd Cara Cara in G10. This knife has a handle similar to an Endura 3 (Which fits me superbly) except the finger grooves curve in mora. It also adds a choil and G10 handles to the design. This makes for an extremely comfortable knife. The overall package is as robust of a folder I've used. Very solid lock, durable blade steel and thick steel liners. The steel sharpens up very well for me, with a minimal of burring.
3. Victorinox Classic. One of the easiest knives to carry. The most sheeple friendly knife I know of. You will be hard pressed to even feel its presence in your pocket, or you can attach it to your keys which I tend to do. The thin blade excels at many everyday tasks like opening mail, opening boxes, peeling fruits and veggies etc. It's the easiest knife to sharpen that I own. Usually I just strop it on my pant leg for 10 swipes or so and that's all the maintenance the edge needs. Like the Farmer, they're nearly impervious to corrosion, whether it be sweat, acidic juices or salt water that's coming in contact with it. The tools can be used to swap hard drives in a computer, trim a mustache, unclog a smoking pipe or one of my personal favorites, using the flat screwdriver tip of the nail file to adjust the pivot on my Spyderco and Byrd folders (Fits perfectly where you'd normally need an obscure torx bit).
Hmm, turns out there are only 3 folders that really stick out in my mind. These 3 cover all my bases, anything else I'll buy a fixed blade.
