its been a while since I've tied anything other than a square not...what do you guys think is the best knot book? Thanks

One of my favorites is "The Marlin Spike Sailor" by Hervey Garrett Smith. It is very well illustrated and the accompanying text is very clear.

I was going to say the Boy Scout Field book, I have an old one and it has a ton of knots, the new one didn’t appear so hot

Has anyone ever seen The Ashley book of knots? It's about the size of War & Peace!

"The Morrow Book of Knots"

Great book. Not to huge, but has a lot of useful stuff in it. (The Paldo Tackle is a personal favorite) It uses color photography and modern colored ropes to help you visualize the process at each stage. Very useful.

My vote definately goes to it, it's a great book. My favorite is the rope ladder out of only rope.

Something for a desert island maybe! A couple of climbing buddies of mine used to swap it back and forth every Christmas!

I think The Knot Book and The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots and Ropework ,both by Geoffrey Budworth, are indespensible.I also highly value Knots For Climbers by Craig Luebben and Knots For the Outdoors by Cliff Jacobson.

yup, i agree. the budworth books are varioulsy republished recipe style both by Borders and Barnes and Nobles. they pretty much seem to have 20000 knots in a DB, then select 50-85% of them to make a given book.

Borders often has a nice trade book size for about $6 every 3-4 months for $6. totally worth it. buy some spare rope in different colors, and start practicing.
