opinions please - and let's run it in 2 directions...

what do you consider to be the best LARGE (10" or more) and the best MEDIUM (7" - 9") size survival blades available on the market today...?

best blade VALUE.... - something most people could afford if they simply saved some cash for a bit...

and

best blade NO $$ LIMIT -

thanks -

I have two large blades I really like. One is an 18" WWII by HI. The other is an Ilocos bolo by Reflections of Asia. They're both monsters. In the 7"-9" range, there's a 12" siru by HI and an old Russell butcher knife that belonged to my great grandfather. Either one of those would work.

Frank

P.S. Even if I had more money I think I'd still grab one of those. I've used them and I trust them.

In my humble opinion:

For the money:
10" chopper- KaBar Cutlass Machete
7" "all rounder"- Becker BK7 (also made by KaBar)
Smaller than 7"- Rat Cutlery

If money's no object:
10" chopper- Busse Fusion Battle Mistress (not technically "on the market", but available)
7" "all rounder"- Bark River Bravo 2
Smaller than 7"- Rat Cutlery or Bark River

Gimme a RAT for every size 6" and under, at least as long as that's their largest blade. :D

For everything above that it's Condor for me. Can't wait for Joezilla's RODAN model!

Fallkniven Thor and a good Busse for the high-quality $$$ monster blades...
Fallkniven Odin for high-quality $$$ all-around blade.
Though, I think most people could save up for them.

For the money, the BK7 is hard to beat (all-around) or the Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie (10"+).

Just my 2 cents...

Over 10" - a good saw, like a Fiskars replaceable blade limb saw. 7" - 9" inches, an camper's axe. I use an Estwing.

In knives, any cheap carbon steel butcher knife will do. Try and find one at a flea market. Won't happen. Nobody lets them go.

That's been the choice of many survivalists, hunters, and woodsmen for hundreds of years.

A lot of people like the Busse 8" NMSFNO as a single knife candidate. $327, hard to break, and can hang off your belt. A good EDC folder will take care of the dinky stuff.
