Hey guys, by the way i know this probably sounds dumb, But...
i got a tenacious about 2-3 weeks ago and it squeaks when i open it. if i loosen the pin is just sits on the side and scratches the liners. i dont use lube for my knifes cause ive never had this problem. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Guys.

You dont have any general oil laying around the house?

I just finally got some tuff-glide, but before that I'd always use Rem oil.

You dont have any 3 in 1 oil around the house? Or even some mineral oil?

Btw my tenacious was squeeky for a while and from my understanding its common with the Tenacious.

i probably do, but i just didnt know if that would effect the knife. ive never needed to use any for knives so i just needed to make sure. Do i just pour it in? like into where the pivot pin is? im kinda of a noob with lube lol

A little goes a long way. If your knife opens and closes well as it is, do not add anything. The old addage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes into play. Excessive oil will only cause more junk to build up in the pivot area making things worse. Also, do not put any il on the liner lock. Tat too will cause problems.

I would suggest all folding knives need a little lube. The ideal way to do this is take it apart & put just a drop on the pivot & blade in between the washers. That's the best way to get the required lubrication where it's needed & not have any where it's just gonna attract lint & gunk. If you do not want to open up the you could put a drop where the washers are & open/close to work it into the pivot & wipe excess.

The thing here is you only need a tiny drop of oil. It will wick in to the joint. Use a toothpick to pick up a drop from the bottle and touch it to each side of the pivot. Work the blade 10 times or so. Less is more. Wipe off any you see on the blade. Use a light machine or gun oil. DO NOT use WD 40. The best lube I have found is Dexron ATF.

My most favorite lube of all that I use on all my Spyderco folders is MILITEC. I've been using it for at least 8 years now and I've had great luck with it. Now Sentry Solutions ( the people that make Tuf Glide & Tuf Cloth) have a dry lube that I'm very impressed with and have had good luck with>> the product is called "BP-2000". It seems to work much better than graphite and other dry lubes.

If you do elect to go ahead and use a wet lube I would encourage you to try MILITEC.

Heard some good stories on Benchmade blue lube, so I ordered a bottle. Works really well I must say. They also have blue lube for cleaning your knife.

+1 on the blue lube. Once in a while when out in the field I usually have some 3 in 1 in my truck and I will use that in a pinch.

WD-40 or 3 in 1 works fine for me.

Don't be scared to oil it. If it moves, lube is good. I have never had a liner or frame lock slip from lubing it.

I wash my knives in hot soapy water, rinse them clean and WD-40 them. A dry lube would be better if you want to avoid dirt.
