Hey new here and looking for a machete to ride along with my Rat-4. Would really love some suggestions. Thanks

I've had really good luck with the Tramontina stuff.

RAT will have their own Machete coming out soon, no due date or price annonuced as of yet.

I'm diggin my Condors. But I've never heard anything terrible about trams. I've got some short 12 inch ontario's I like, but the 22" doesn't do it for me.

if you're poor like me and you don't mind doing a bit of hand sharpening/modification, a tramontina is great! ten bucks or less, and you can make it anything from a machete to a kitchen knife. they take a good edge, and hold it pretty well. i hear condor-imacasa make better 'chetes, but i've never handled one. i'm holding out for the ESEE LITE MACHETE.

For now I'd go with either a Condor, Imacasa, or Tramontina of your favorite flavor over at Machete Specialist. The Condor line is Imacasa's "deluxe" lineup and represent the finest production machetes on the market. Also, if you have the money, Fiddleback in the maker's forum is doing some mods on vintage Collins machetes (the holy grail of machetes in most folks' opinion). The first batch of 5 are all gone (I got one of them, as did Joezilla, Moonwilson, and I think OldPhysics) and I love mine. Only ten more will be made, though, since that's how many more vintage blade blanks were available.

Thanks! That means something coming from you!:p It's a really interesting handle profile that Andy put on the scales, and it works great! I had to round off the back of the handle to get rid of the sharpish corners, but the next batch of them should have a full radius. :)

Funny thing is I actually have a old 1943 Legitimus Collins & Company USN machete that I purchased at a yard sale. Its been put on a grinder but besides that is sound. Its just a little long to carry

I have been using my KA-BAR Kukri Machete over the last couple of days - it is excellent and goes for a reasonable price. It chops and batons well.

I recently got 2 condor machetes for 11 dollars apiece. I spent 8 dollars on a Camp Machete from Ontario, another good option if you can find it that inexpensive.

Condor. Trams are great and cheap, but require more edge attention then Condor, if you have the time they are great. Okapi is another that is nice.

We know that the RC-10 will be called the Junglas. What will the 18" one be called? I say, "Chupacabra"!

I keep my Ontario 22"s close by at all times. One on my pack and 2 in the truck. I've walked out of some deep s**t with it and wouldn't trade any of them. Of course I did away with the factory edges and handles in exchange for a more convex grind and burlap micarta scales.
Great blades!
