I stumbled upon these Japanese axes and checked them on on the best made website and they look sooo good. However I have questions, and after doing a ton of research I haven't come up with anything. So I know Best made re brands/ collaborates with other manufacturers which is what I am guessing this is the case with these Japanese axes. I was trying to source the best made warikomi pattern axe(the pattern that resembles a tradition hatchet) from somewhere other than them. I found a few axes on the famous auction site and a couple from wood working tool sources but they were not the same pattern or manufacturer for all I know, but they were alot less coin. I did discover something interesting Garrett Wade sells a japanese hand axe that looks stunning similar to the Best Made Japanese Jigata pattern axe, the garrett wade is 1/3 the price. I understand you get what you pay for, and that ultimately is my question. Please school me! There just isnt that much info out there(via interwebs) on these axes in general. Makers, quality, availability, Price. Any opinions & info is appreciated.

I know almost nothing on the subject but I hung one of the ebay (shooting-star21) sourced heads for someone and it appeared to be of excellent quality and craftsmanship to me. You can see pics in my project thread. I also spoke to the guy who is either involved in making them or selling them (he is a member on BushcraftUSA), or both. The only thing I don't understand about the one I hung is there is no taper in the eye. I guess it's just "different" but seems to me that a tapered eye is just a simple solution.

I uploaded some new images to the Best Made Website which better shows the bit profiles. They're all pretty different. The Warikomi has a convex profile, while the Jigata and the Bakin are flat chisel bevels (which you could change if you wanted). The Bakin has the thinnest profile of the three, and is my favorite.
