Does anyone have experience using these? There's plenty on the market but I'm looking for one that provides protection as well as magnification while grinding or at least fits around the normal PPE.

I just found out reading glasses are a thing and available in up to 4x magnification. I think this should work underneath a face shield.

I use prescription safety glasses, I think they are +1.5. They can be a bit disorienting when you look away from your close-up work, but you get used to it. The other device I use to help me see better is a head lamp. Maybe not so important if you have really good lighting at your grinder, but it really helps for hand sanding.

I don’t think they’re safety rated, but Optivisors are made to wear over glasses. I have x2,x2.5, and x3…couldn’t get along without them. I wear over prescription safety glasses…no problem.

I live in an optivisor. I wear one about 8 hours a day. Best visor in the business. I have one for close up engraving and diamond setting with a #7 lens and a light. It is an older model that has a cord and transformer.
Normally I work in a #5 lens. For bench work, many people use a # 3 or even a #2.

I can tell you what not to get, lol. Do not get one of those cheap, knockoff visors off the big river site. I purchased two before I learned my lesson. Cheap materials, cheap build quality, bad performance. The plastic band that goes around your head had all kinds of burs on it. Pulled my hair like crazy. The optical lenses were ground improperly causing distortion. The focal point was about 3" - 4" from the 2x magnification lenses. The extra lenses didn't fit flat. The "real leather" band cover was vinyl. Etc, etc, etc.

I purchased a genuine Donegan OptiVISOR after that and haven't looked back. The difference is night and day.

I love my Carson Pro Magnivisor. I've had it for a long time and use it nearly every day. It uses 3 AAA batteries for the LED light.
