Hello,

I've sanded the black coating off of my Hissatsu. Went in stages of 240-400-550-1000-1200, then used some Flitz.

The shape of the blade makes it somewhat difficult to use the sandpaper going in the direction that the blade is facing, so a majority of the work was done lengthwise.

I'm looking to eliminate the smaller scratches and hope to accomplish this by the use of a drill attached buffing wheel, and using a gradually less aggressive compound.

I don't have a dremel tool, but from what I read that has a tendency to leave non-uniform results.

Any advice on this is appreciated.

I've removed bead blast from a few knives and polished a couple of ESEEs. I have used a Dremel tool a few times. In my experience the final stages can only be done by hand. I usually use a red compound then "Flitz." My personal method is cutting up a bunch of pieces of cardboard and using the edge of those pieces for the rubbing since cardboard is pretty abrasive. It takes a Looooooong time. Pretty much every time I go in stages of an hour here and there. It usually takes several hours. I'm sure there are better methods but this has worked very well for me!
