I am asking you with experience in Microtech knives for your opinions of what model is the best bang for the buck.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I'd say a DOC or Socom Delta in 204p, at an online retail price, is about the best deal they've ever put out. The trouble is finding them for anything close to a good price these days. They make small batches in varying steels very intermittently. It could be 3-5 months of something being out of stock before they send out a new batch, and you're at the mercy of secondary market prices in between.

If you are talking OTF knives the best everyday carry for me is the Scarab with drop point blade . It has a nice snap not a weak ping like on the baby troodon . It also holds it value. That is something I always consider when I buy a knife. Next up would be the Combat Troodon with a Tanto blade it is another knife with a good snap and it actually will cut unlike the dagger blade style.

If you want to talk about there current folder line up . I have had the DOC it is a lot of knife for the money . Big and heavy . I had one with Elmax but in the end it just didn't do it for me. If you can get your hands on a Socom Elite plain edge that's a knife I carry a lot . And the Socom Delta is a pretty nice one as well. But I really have not used mine as much as I like due to the weak detent on mine. Shop around and check all the used deals that come up. Good way to save a few bucks and maybe test drive a few.

I am talking about the folders. The one I am interested in is the SOCOM Delta with the G10 / Carbon Fiber Grips but all I see for sale are the same model with aluminum handles.
Am I missing something here? Aren't the G10's a better handle fpr gripping and durability?

Get G10 in the delta's. Delta's run pretty cheap (for microtechs) in the exchange, try and snag one in 204p and you're set for life.

The Delta, Ultratech, or DOC would be my pick. The seem to decrease in value after purchase. The Deltas are seen very frequently on the forums and so are the DOCs, ultratechs almost as often. Just about always they are less than mrsp even if they are listed as nib they can be had for quite a bit less.

Seems like that is the problem, they are only available in Aluminum these days, the G10 is long gone.

That blows...I actually off loaded my G10 204p delta here so I could get a 204p socom elite thinking I could pick one up again down the road because they had been popping up fairly often. I know microtech just finished a run of combat troodon autos not long ago so hopefully we'll see more options soon.

I have a S35VN Delta and it is a really nice piece. The G10 is a nice touch, but it flexes a bit because it's so thin. I like the steel blade catchers (on the handle) they protrude a little so the blade stops don't smash the G10 all up to be damned. I can't find a picture of the same spot on the Aluminum handle version. Would not be cool dropping almost $275-$300 on a folder and having it beat itself up every time it opens. I did snag an Ultratech in 204P, it's super nice.

I would assume they have the same steel stops, but even it they don't I wouldn't worry too much about the aluminum. My socom elite stops against the aluminum and its rock solid after loads of cycling. Steel stops would give a little peace of mind for sure though.

After posting last night, I went to look for videos on YouTube, and I couldn't find anything on the Aluminum Deltas. The anodizing does hold up pretty well compared to some other Anodized models I've seen. Makes me wonder if it is a double coat, different type of anodization (type 2 vs type 3). What I really kick myself for is missing the Socom Delta SE in good old S30V. I don't need super fancy steel, but that would have been a great piece to own and use.

I have the G10/S35Vn Socom Delta...rock solid in every aspect. It is the satin blade (prefer stonewashed but grabbed what I could when I could) I beat the knife hard and it doesn't show it at all. Still fairly sharp too. I dialed in my pivot and it flies open every time. The ceramic bearing pivot makes it super smooth. The over sized thumb stud doesn't hurt either. It is one of the few knives I refuse to part with. I'm still on the lookout for one in CTS 204P steel. They're available (my friend just sold his here) but I would like to trade into it.
