I wnat to know who makes the ebst multi tools, the ones with scrww drivers plyers and everythinge else, Companies like leatherman or gerber

and what are the best models

Check out the multi-tool forum on here, but I like my Victorinox Swiss Tool, but Leatherman has the new Charge models out that look pretty good.

I'm a die hard Gerber fan. I've been carrying a 600 for about 5 years now working for a hay and straw farm. I've probably cut a million peices of baling wire (also fence wire, Romex wire for electrical stuff, and a lot of other things). The teeth aren't pretty but they work just fine and don't bind at all.

The pliars have been sprung pretty good from using the thing as a hammer/ice pick/crow bar. They still lock open nice and solid but rattle quite a bit when closed anymore. They are made much more heavily than any other multi tool I've handled other than the leatherman supertool which seems about equal. I haven't handled SOG to compare though. They grip pretty well too, I've used them as wrench on many occasions when I couldn't get to one.

The tools inside the handle have been used for everything they're supposed to be and alot they aren't. I had to use the serrated blade to saw through the cable on my spare tire once, no chips or anything, sharpened right up the next day.

The biggest thing for me is the slide action pliars. I can't see myself ever switching, its so nice to be able to just snap them open when you need them. I hate it when I'm crawling around under a peice of equipment or only have one hand free and I have to stop and fumble around for tools. The pliars are so much more convenient than the other designs on the market. You can use them as a spreading/prying tool also since they don't fold when you spread the handles.
I like the bolt action lock on all the other tools as well. Its not really bothered by dirt and grime too much, always locks up tight even if its really gritty, and its convenient to release even when you're wearing gloves, or if you have grease all over you hands or something. No little liners or levers to fumble with.

I have had them all.....I swear!! The ones I liked the most was my swiss tool. Hands down the strongest tool out there!! Now I have a SOG Powerlock and I find it to be a great tool as well. They are all decent it all depends on what you like after you handle them. ;)

Top makers, my order.
1. SOG (Don't own any of their knives, but I like their multis.)
2. Leatherman - Many many models and all are solid and dependable. Most variety to choose from.
3. Swiss Army (Victorinox) Tools - very strong and heavy duty.
4. Gerber - Personally never liked these, but many do.

There are others, but I would trust anything from 1-3 and the larger models from 4.

If you want mega strong pliers, my fav is the SOG (EOD Powerlock) - The Pliers are reinforced by a simple gearing mechanism that adds a bunch more tork to the grip. I have cut barbed wire several times with them on the farm when large cutters were not available.
The plier heads do not seem to "gap " with a lot of use nearly as quickly as the Gerber I had.
If you are looking though for awesome knife steel in your tool, the Spydewrench is the way to go (440C on the blade). It of course does not have all the nick nacks, but it is built like a rock.
It is built more for primary use as a plier/ Screwdriver/ Knife. - No wirecutters, saw etc.

Vinny,
I agree with the opinions of the gentlemen above; there are indeed many good multi-tools on the market.

However, there is only one "World's Greatest Multitool", as shown below:

As you can plainly see, the capabilities of this tool far exceed those of any other multitool. When I was younger, before my back started giving me problems, I used to carry this tool with me every day. Whether the task was cutting some fishing line, fixing a transmission, or building a barn, it never let me down!

vinny77, i would suggest you start with a 5.00 gerber from another thread in this forum. (how could you go wrong?)

*Bob, that's funny as h*ll!! :D

Well, for superior pliers I would try the LM Crunch. They have even more leverage than the SOG and are locking. Of course, I have the Crunch _and_ the SOG powerlock, and I really like them both. The SOG has more tools and is customizable and is easily opened one handed. It also has a longer wire cutter. The Crunch has more power and locks, but limited tools (even though the tools are locking and good, there just aren't very many). The Crunch is significantly smaller when folded also.

These two models are IMHO the best multitool pliers available.

Spyderench is neat, but they are discontinued, hard to find, and lack wire cutters. I hear rumors of an updated version though...

For the best blade on ANY multitool, you have to go with the Leatherman Charge Ti or XTi. The 154CM blade is great, but I don't like the way-too-short bit drivers. I would have made the tool 1/2" longer and put in longer bits...
