I was wondering whether you guys have any opinions as to what non-Spyderco production knives introduced in 2000 impressed you most. I am eliminating Spyderco from this list because I own too many already and am considering purchasing another high-quality brand knife in the future.

From what I keep reading here, the Al Mar SERE 2000, and the Microtech LCC, seem to rank highest in most peoples' list. Anybody care to add their own choices, or confirm these? Maybe also the reasons why you prefer your pick/picks.

Thank you,

I'd have to say the Microtech LCC it is an excellent knife for the money. I have the manual one so I can't really tell you much about the dual action other than the complaints were posted bylots of people on this and other forums. It is a knife with a solid lockup and nice heavy feel to it. From what I understand from reading different posts it seems that microtech is losing money on these because of how low they priced them. The Ti bolsters are about to be changed to aluminum to try to offset some of the cost problem. Get one while you can it's a great knife.

This knife is just about tobe introduced now, but I have to include it because it looks so darn good. The Microtech Amphibian. I have no idea how much this thing is going to cost, but I am going to have to get one.
If you pick up the latest copy of Knives Illustated, you will find an ad for it on page 48, with a picture.

My short list for 2000:
  • Microtech LCC (plain/stonewash)
  • Al Mar SERE 2000
  • Benchmade 730(BT) Ares
  • Benchmade 940 Osborne
  • Chris Reeve Sebenza Classic 2000
(Haven't gotten that last one yet, darn

) I gave my opinions on the first three in a recent thread entitled Need IMHO(s) I'm shopping; you might find other useful information in that thread as well.

Without a doubt... The Microtech D/A LCC!

For the Quality, and the price tag, it can not be beat.

I'd have to say I was impressed with Benchmade's Axis lick folders. I particularly like their Osborne model 940.
Kershaw's collaborations with Ken Onion impressed me too.

The LCC is the best I've ever seen for the money. As a previous poster said, they were underpriced and are now being "watered down" by MT. Grab one while you can still get the Ti bolsters.

The Microtech LCC M/A or D/A. Although, this is only in the Titanium Bolster format.

(Yeah, I said it, if you don't like it, I'll say it again.)

The Emerson SOCFK, sold exclusively through Extreme Outfitters.

(Yeah, I said it, if you don't like it, I'll say it again.)

The Benchmade 42, although I do believe that they could have done a whole lot better with this model and brought out another Titanium Handled Model with Solid Handles as well as bringing back the flush pin high-ends (not the Customs).

(Yeah, I said it, if you don't like it, I'll say it again.)

And the same goes for a knife...
And, I'm a Usual Suspect.

1- Microtech LCC stonewash
2- Benchmade Axis lock (pick one I think there all great)
3- Kershaw speedsafe

You can never own too many Spydercos

These would be my choices as well.

What can I say about the SERE 2000? It rocks!

Microtech is going to use aluminum bolsters on future runs of the LCC, so if you want titanium bolsters you had better get one now. If you prefer aluminum bolsters then you should wait.

I would also recommend any of the Benchmade Axis lock designs. The Axis lock is great.
