I haven't yet bought into the need for a super expensive High Definition or Plasma TV, but needed a new one for my downstairs den. So, I went shopping the other day. Made the usual stop at Best Buy(don't worry, I didn't give them any of my money) and Circuit City, for comparison purposes. After looking at many, many TVs from all of the major brands, I finally decided on one.
I think I got about as much TV as a person can get, without getting into all the super hyped up high definition or other trendy stuff, or spending a lot of money. I bought a Toshiba 32" Flat Screen, model 32AF44. Sitting next to the Panasonics, Sonys, Hitachis, Phillips, RCA, Samsung, etc..., this Toshiba picture was noticeably sharper and clearer than all of them. All of the brands were playing the same movie, so the comparison was easy. Biggest surprise to me, was comparing it to the Sony of the same exact size and features. Both were nice and clear, but on the Sony, I could see little dots in the dark area, whereas the Toshiba didn't have these dots. The salesman said all Sonys are like that.
For the record, I ended up buying the TV at Sears, since they sent me a nice coupon that knocked another $55 off, bringing the total to $495.
