I would like to hear people's experiences with getting a non leather sheath for a Busse Combat Badger Attack LE (5" x 0.25" blade with magnum handle). I emailed Okuden and Semper Paratus Tactical (several times) and and have not gotten responses to price and turnaround time from either. Do any of you have experiences with these or other manufacturers of sheathes? Thanks.

Call Brian at Okuden directly. He has always answered or called me back fairly quickly. His kydex is the best I have ever used. Get the A7 sheath which has a belt loop and it will be sized for a tek lok which you can supply yourself or purchase from Okuden. Best of both worlds, you won't be disappointed.

There are a lot of kydex benders here. I'm sure they'll chime in soon. I personally like to start out with a Spec-Ops Combat Master sheath.

Does the Spec-Ops Combat Master sheath have much play related to generic sizing of blade width? I see it comes in two different lengths.

That's weird. Brian at Okuden has always gotten back to me promptly.

A bit. The smaller size will work. But, nothing fits like a custom. I have had sheaths from almost all the makers here. All of them good. I have one for my Sarsquatch coming from Steelnut as we speak.

You can make the Spec-Ops sleeve tighter by heating it (with care) and shaping it as desired. That was my solution.

If you look at the bottom pic, you'll see I also notched the sleeve to accomodate the guard/talon hole.

One last question: are the kydex sheaths without handle snap secure for attachment to a pack, or can they fall out with a jolt?

Depends on how you want it made. With a tight holding sheath, I don't think you have to worry at all. If someone were going to belt carry all the time, he/she might ask for light tension. For strapping to a pack, you'd want the kydex tension to be higher.

The maker can adjust the tension at which the kydex holds. So can you, just using a simple hair dryer. I've gotten one or two kydex rigs where I either loosened or tightened the tension. The key is in heating slowly, applying a small amount of pressure in the direction you want the sheath to go (either squeezing or prying), letting the kydex cool a bit, and testing tension with the knife (often).

Hey IsleofGough, welcome to Bladeforums, and congratulations on a great all-around blade.

If a hair drier is enough to loosen kydex, wouldn't a hot environment (like Iraq) also loosen it?

I don't think so. My kydex doesn't seem to have loosened in 90+ degree humid Tennessee/Alabama/Georgia heat.

The hair dryer delivers a focused air stream that heats the kydex way above room temp or outside temp. If you aren't cautious with a hair dryer, you can melt the kydex.

As far as shaping kydex, like the Spec-Ops liners, some folks use hot water instead of hot air.

+1 I have all Oku sheaths and think Brian is a master sheath maker. I like the belt loop too, better than the TekLok since the sheath rides lower and doesn't dig into my side.

Here's one he did for me:

I sold them only because I sold my BATAC LE knives.
