Hi,

What are some suggestions for the every best, practical, friendly looking EDC folder for an office environment that is right around $100.00??

Three that come to mind to me are.........

Buck 55
Spyderco Chaparral
Benchmade Mini Griptilian

Victorinox Rambler
Great Eastern half-congress

Buck 55 is a good choice, depending on the kind of office you are in. Wouldn't match a suit, I daresay.

I don't have one but a Spyderco Air seems like a nice choice if you can stretch your budget a tad.
If you can find a Benchmade Opportunist, it was a good office carry for me. Should have kept that one...

Hard to best a Spyderco Sage 1 for around that price.

If I were you, I'd camp the exchange and wait till a Benchmade 940 popped up for around $120. The 940 has an incredibly useful blade (3.5"), carries like a much smaller knife, and due to its nifty green handle and purple titanium backspacer, looks incredibly friendly (received several "that's a pretty knife" comments from women, haha).

I would suggest you might also consider some of the traditional style pocket knives like Swiss Army Knives or Case folding knives. These are the ones that many people may have grown up owning as a kid, or remembering their parents or grandparents using.

Victorinox Cadet, Rambler, Pioneer, or Electrician are some that come to mind.
Case Peanut, Mini-trapper, or mini-Copperhead are some others to consider.

Buck also makes some decent traditional styled knives.

The good news is that for $100 you can probably get two or more of any of those listed above.

There are some higher-end traditional folders that come in closer to or in some cases well above your $100 mark from Great Eastern Cutlery (they have several sub-brands), AG Russell, Queen Cutlery to name a few others. AG Russell also has some lower priced models so I shouldn't lump him in with the "high dollar" folders only.

If you're looking for something in the more modern styles then you've got a lot of good advice so far. I'd consider one of the smaller Spydercos like the Dragonfly, Manbug, or Ladybug, they are unlikely to arouse much fear due to their size and blade shapes, and can be had in handle-colors other than black.

Kershaw leek...super sharp, sleek, and F&F is tops.
Sage 1 or 2...really love both but the carbon fiber 1 is really a pleasure.

Can't go wrong with either...

If you dress up on the office then the Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air would be my choice because pocket clips and slacks usually don't go well, and to me the Air seems elegant, but I don't have one.
I usually go with the Spyderco Sage 1 when in a suit. It's black wire clip is not as notable on a dark colored suit. I also carry a Kershaw Double Duty sometimes, looks traditional but can still be opened 1 handed, has 2 good sized blades, and both of them lock open. A SOG Twitch 2 (or Twitch 2 XL in my case) is also good for a suit because it's thin. I don't carry frn handled or bulkier handled knives when in a suit (Delica, Endura, Griptilian, mini Grip).
Like others have suggested, a Swiss Army Knife would also work great.

Great suggestions, so far...thanks!

I work at educational research "think tank" in NJ, so I can dress fairly casual, but not jeans usually. The Buck 55 and Victorinox Pioneer look great. I can buy BOTH for my budget!

my main edc for use in the office is a dragonfly g10. it probably gets more use than any of my other folders right now.
