What's the best lubricant for the pump and and valve seals, etc. on a Coleman lantern or stove?

Good question..... I've always used "sewing machine" oil, but it may not be the "best"....

Since it's a leather seal, maybe a leather-conditioning wax or similar product would be better?

Just replaced one on a ten year old Duel Fuel model and its some kind of rubber or plastic. The o rings in the main valve are shot too. Ran a lot of gasoline through it years ago. Gonna replace all the rubber bits and was wondering if anything would protect all these parts. Maybe get twenty years out of it before the next rebuild, lol.

I would suggest a silicone-based O-ring lubricant. I suspect that all brands are basically the same.

I'm still running my dad's late 1960's Coleman stove, love the thing. I still remember when we were camping in prob the early 90's and it wasn't wotking quite right, not holding pressure, eratic flame, etc. Then he noticed the "oil" stamping with the arrow pointing to a little hole for the first time! hahahaha. Suffice to say a few drops of 3-in-1 oil and the stove came right back normal. I use 3 in 1 or WD-40 now and works just fine.

I guess something like: 3 in 1, Marvel Mystery Oil, Liquid Wrench Super Oil, or Starrett light oil. Sewing machine oil is also light. I dont believe you want anything with detergent (cause I believe it can dry up the o-ring) or Teflon. Super Oil is suppose to no gum up or get sticky. Not sure about 3-in-1

Neatsfoot oil is what coleman collectors use but these all work..
3-in one
30w motor oil
Any light oil would do in a pinch. Usually the older lanterns have leather pump cups that dry out when not used for awhile and are often mistaken as no good. All it usually needs is to be oiled and after a few minutes its good again.
Watch whats in there(dust). It can clog the checkvalve if the pump cylinder has dust, dirt, rust, ect. If you had it stored a long time open it and remove the pump shaft look in the cylinder for debris. If not oil it and pump away.... Hope that helps. Oh coleman sells pump lube on their site.
