I have searched the forum some for the answer, but I wanna ask as well.

The knife is a Fällkniven TK1 and the material in the handle is Coccobolo.

I bought something called Ballistol Balsin for handles on firearms (it smells pretty bad).

I also bought some Ballistol universal oil. (for the blade)

What are your toughts about these oils?

Anything to Think of before getting the oiling going?

Thanks!

I haven't used those particular oils. I've always had great luck with Breakfree CLP for blade protection but this is only for blades that wont touch food. For wood and bone I just give them a coating of mineral oil and I will also use mineral oil on blades that will be around food. Froglube is another good food safe alternative to Breakfree but I have to personal experience with it.

If you are going to use it regularly, I wouldn't oil the blade at all. I have 3 knives in 3G steel, I don't protect the blades at all apart from cleaning & drying (I do take drying seriously). If one was going into storage for 6 months or longer, I would spray the whole knife with lanolin spray.

For protecting the wood, I would regularly apply a good natural oil, like Tung oil. I don't have a cocobolo handle, but it is very dense. A fine oil will penetrate better. Few times a year should be enough. you can try different oils if you don't like whaat your using.
