Well I've been considering buying a new knife. Requirements are lock back handle with a good grip. And a pocket clip. I want a company with great customer service preferably American made and will sharpen easily and hold a good a edge. I don't want to take an hour to sharpen my knife. I would like to keep it under $100. Brands on my mind are Benchmade buck Kershaw ka-bar cold steel. But I am open to anything. I work as an auto mechanic so I cut boxes plastic wrapping, zip ties, scrape gaskets sometimes ect......so a good handle is essential. All advice is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I don't know what size you're looking for, but for backlocks you should consider the Spyderco FRN Native in S35vn, it's probably the best back lock I've personally carried for ergonomics and blade shape, it's not very big but it is very easy to use and the steel is very good, being relatively easy to sharpen and holds an edge for a while. Also, the Native is made in Golden, CO, USA, Earth. ;)

I would also recommend checking the Spyderco line of folders with FRN handles (Endura, Stretch, Delica, Dragonfly), while being Spyderco they are made in Japan. I'm thinking the Stretch in particular, it's got a good size, good comfortable handle, back lock, pocket clip, and with the VG-10 steel it's a good base steel that won't be hard to work with. I have the ZDP version and it's currently in my pocket, it's been a fantastic knife so far.

My usual suggestion : Manix 2. Extremely versatile and great ergonomics. Most versions can be found well under $100. I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I am a car guy, and my Manix can do anything from cut coolant hoses to open the boxes my parts come in. One handed opening and closing is easy, which is important because I always have something in my other hand when I need my knife. Great knife to have around the garage.

Checkout the exchange for a ZT0350 built tough good steel and can be found in that price range on the exchange.
