My wife has expressed an interest in getting a PDA. It doesn't need to perform technical functions, just calendar, contacts, notes, that type of stuff. She wants to sync it with her Outlook at work I believe. PDAs seem to develop cult followings with everyone swearing theres is the best. Is there a site out there that gives unbiased reviews and comparisons?

There are too many websites comparing various models out there to list - just go to Google, enter a name of few popular brands and add "comparison" to that, it'll spit out quite some websites of interest.

As for your wife's particular situation: if that's all she wants she shoudl have a look at the cheapest models - i think Ipaq 19xx series should be extremely affordable and yet reasonably fast, providing her with everything she wanted.

I know how to use google. I am trying to tap the expertise of some of the members here. There are some sites that I regularly use to compare electronic gadgets, but I am hoping someone here is a PDA fanatic that may know of "the best" site.

The Ipaq models are one of the brands we have looked at.

Thanks.

When bought mine i didn't restrict my search to one source only; i tried to find as many as i could, to get different opinions. Google was extremely handy in this regard,i got some reviews in local computer magazines and many more online. I got me an Ipaq H5550.

There's a website called PDA buyers guide which has a myriad of reviews and recommendations. cNET is another wonderful site that covers a variety of electronics including PDAs

pdabuzz.com is a good forum for all the techies, but you may end up just getting confused by all the discussion.
If simplicity is what your wife values, along with compatibility with Outlook, have her look at a Palm based unit. I know the Windows based PDA's have more to offer for power users, but I don't use my PDA to utilize Excel spredsheets, surf the internet, or play a shoot 'em up video game.
I just want to find a phone number, and see if I'm open for an appointment on Thursday at 2:00.

Simpicity is where Palms excel.

Power and great versatility in use is the domain of Windows based units.

Take your pick and go with the one that best fits your budget.

Farmboy is 100% correct, I just wanted to add that, because the Palm based units tend to be simpler, you can get more bang for your buck. At one time, I was looking into switching to Windows CE, but all the Windows units priced in my range had fairly poor reviews. If all your wife is going to do is replace a bulky Daytimer, the Palm platform can't be beat .
