Best place to clip heavy folders

I've experimented with clipping my Mini Manix to various places, and I've found that the best place to clip it is in the waistband in the back, a couple inches off center to my spine.

It doesn't weigh down my jeans and conceals easily under any untucked shirt. It also "disappears" and I don't feel it after a few minutes. Anybody else have similar / differing thoughts?

That is one of the reasons I don't carry knives that feels to heavy for me. I am a creature of habit and always carry my knife at my right front pocket.

Same here, too heavy or bulky to carry in the right front pocket, it stays home.

I go IWB at 2 o'clock (front).

I've tried the in the back method, but found that when I laid down (on the couch or to get under a car, etc.) it would cause problems.

Weight is not my issue, I just don't like things in my pockets.

I carry knives either clipped to my right front & left front, or IWC appendix carry.

IWB at right front in the hip crease. What ever is in rotation goes there. My hand goes there instinctively. If I moved it now after all these years, I would probably still reach there.

I frequently carry my Buck 110 that I put a thumb stud and pocket clip on. I carry it on my right jeans pocket just like any of my others. It weighs 7.3 ounces which is more than an ounce heavier than the Manix full size. I've never had any problem carrying it at all.

i used to carry my blue ce rescue at about 6:30 7 o clock (just to the left of my spine) i havent carried a blade there for a while, my pacific salt rides at about 11 o clock just along the leg crease, this way the blade just as comfy and more easily accessed when seated.
my SS cricket goes in my belt at about 3 oclock
and if im carrying my ATR or dodo it goes into my right rear pocket

I've tried several methods as well on the heavier folders. If I have larger pockets, then clipped in the front is fine as long as it doesn't interfere when I dig my hand in my pocket. I've found that clipping to the back part of cargo pants is not too bad, better than the front as it doesn't flop around as much. Back pocket, for me, is not good at work - I sit a good portion of my time. Belt sheath has been about the best for me when I do carry one on me. For the most part, I don't use a larger folder on a daily basis, so mine (this week a Buck 887SBT and Al Mar SERE 2K) are in my Maxpedition.

I got a recommendation that maybe some of you guys/gals have overlooked. I wear Carhartt Jeans most of the time. In the summer I usually wear hiking shorts a lot. OK on my Carhartt Jeans they have a side pocket on the right leg. I carry a C-44 Spyderco big Dyad as my primary EDC. By carrying it in my side leg pocket I am able to carry a much bigger folder that would normally be a bit awkward to carry in my pants pocket. I have been carrying my EDCs this way for the last 2 years and I haven't lost a knife yet and I have never been bothered and/or acosted by any cop either. And I carry it virtually everywhere.

Now in the summer when I wear my baggy hiking shorts I have big deep pockets which are ideal for clipping a knife onto. But in my opinion Carhartt has the best knife carrying set up that I have encountered yet.

I agree, the Carhartt pocket is perfect. :) I use that one if my knife doesn't have a clip, or if I want to carry a pocket-sized fixed blade, since there's a little lip to the pocket that prevents things from sliding out while you're sitting down.
Normally, however, I just clip on RFP, and toss my telephone in the side pocket.
Nice thing about Carhartts is they have a side pocket on each leg... :D

I used to carry 8:00. Then I started wearing a belt and moved to new mexico, where we aren't allowed to conceal knives. So it's left front pocket for me, now. I have to buy jeans with thicker denim if I want to carry anything on the heavy side and carrying in dress pants is almost out of the question.

Hey puukkoman the Carhartt side leg pockets are great for clips too. I have been carrying my C-44 big Dyad mostly in that side leg pocket with the use of the pocket clip and I have not had a problem at all. Now I do check my clip periodically to make sure that it is tight. I even ride ATVs a lot in the wetlands I work at and I have never even lost a knife riding the ATV>> and I am not very conservative driving/riding it sometimes either :D . I am also going to investigate the possibility of a belt sheath similar to the ones that they use with the Guntings.

Also when I wear my bib overalls during work I sometimes use the front pockets on the bib itself to hold a couple of folders. And again I have had no problem what so ever. But I am also open to any better ideas because I shutter at the thought of losing even one of my Dyads :o

Nice suggestions, all. Thanks for the replies. Lately, I've found that heavier folders just feel better in the hand for me than the light ones. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to carry them.
