I have a HF 1x30 belt sander that I use for sharpening and light shaping work. I have gotten belts in the past from LeeValley and SuperGrit, but neither of them seemed to fit all that well(might be my grinder thats off). But anyways, I was wondering if there are other places I should be looking for belts. specifically I am looking for belts from 500grit on up to 1500 or 2k.
The last ones I ordered from Leevalley were aluminum oxide grinding belts, and they did not hold up very well for $5 a pop. I'm considering trying out their Trizact belts, does anyone have any experience with these?

This question might be better served over in the makers area. Maybe do a search on that forum for the belts you want. I hear Pop's has a decent selection of supplies.

I just bought a HF 1x30 belt sander. I bought 36, 320, 600 grit as well as a felt belt from Jantz. I had the opportunity to use them last night shaping and polishing a handle on a Green River small butcher blade and they worked real well. I used green rouge on the felt and it polished up the PakkaWood real well. It left just the slightest hint of polishing marks on the handle. I tried sharpening with the felt belt but it did not work well. There was quite a difference in the way the belts rode on the sander. The felt seemed a little tighter and sounded different. The bi-directional 320 and 600 were also tighter (they all seemed to compress the tensioning spring more than my uni-directional belts). Jantz doesn't have anything finer than 600 grit 1x30 in their catalog. For polishing you could get by with a set of felt belts and the appropriate polishing compounds. I've read that the leather belts are the way to go for sharpening but they cost about 2x the felt belts.
