Hi All!
I still have problems sharpening with Lansky because of it's fixed angles. Since many have said that the Spyderco 204 sharpmaker is fool proof, Well this fool/idiot needs to know where is the best place to get one. Remember, i'm in Malaysia.
Mike/Spark, I don't mind getting from 1 stop if you are willing to ship it to me....

Never mind the 204...

I think Spyderco should be making just the 204 BASE available so all of us who bought the 203 can use our perfectly good cermamic sticks and take advantage of the extra angle option. I really need that 30 degree bevel for certain blades, but now I'm screwed because when I bought the 203 I had no idea that the 204 existed. My dealer only had 203's anyway.

MJ&S Knives had a supply of them, one less when they sold me mine!

I sold my old 203 to a friend at work to fund the purchase so it wasn't too bad....

jusy curious, how could you have problems with your lansky because of their fixed angles? your supposed to have a fixed angle when sharpening or else the blade won't get sharpened correctly if you are stroking at different angles...please correct me if i'm wrong.

Hi Shawn,
Good point. Here is where i found problems,
The fixed angles on Lansky are mostly(IMHO only, note this)good for production pieces as the factory makers use angles similar to those found on the Lansky. I've change my collections to custom pieces and they are usually on a slightly different angle. Without any contraption to hold on to the knife while using just my hand, i can angle my hand slightly to compensate. I know i can do this on a flat stone but i've heard many recommending the 204 so i'll give it a try. Sharpening free hand will also improve sharpening skills, though i'm still learning. I think the 204 is good for "touching up" and not to alter major edge angles. I don't think i can bring myself to do that to my custom pieces....

Other than that, Lansky's knife "holder" which directs sharpening rods will cause serious scars to blade if not careful.....
Hope these answers you question Shawn.

Hey keninshiro, the next time you go to Hard Rock Cafe, tell Shiralisa I said hi. I don't know if she still works there, it has been 4 years since I have been there.

Hi E_WOK!

Will do but i'm not sure if she is still there cause my last visit was 1 1/2 years ago. BTW, how do you know her? Did you stay in Malaysia for some time?

Later,
ERIC WONG.

Two Wongs don't make a White!
Eric, you actually know her? Malaysia was just one of the many countries that I was visiting at that time. It was an all expenses paid trip. I spent a few days there. She was my favorite waitress.

Another Wong eh? My....how ironic that our names start with an E too.

I know quite a few waitress there but the sad part is they leave after a year or two of service. I'll check it out and let you know.
