Now that I've ordered my KMG, the only major piece of equipment I need to make my shop complete is a Heat Treat oven. Since I doubt Danbo will take me up on my ofer to make a deal on his Even Heat, I've got to consider other options.
I have an amatur machinist buddy that has offered me a small pottery kiln for a VERY attractive price for possible use as a HT oven. I'm looking for opinions on this proposition. It's got a 12"x12"x8" chamber with a max temp of 2000 degrees F. There is no kind of temp control, so a controller would have to be added.
My concern is that it's a large volume to heat which means slow rise times and the dimensions would limit how long a blade I could treat.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra effort to try and mod it into a controllable oven, or should I pass and keep looking?
TIA
